Title: Color Profiles-Help
Post by: Hishnak on July 30, 2009, 01:41:07 pm
I'm creating my pixel art in Photoshop CS3 running on Mac OS X 10.5.7. However, whenever I save files (.png or .gif) they become desaturated when viewing them in Preview, Firefox, and Thunderbird. However, when viewed from Safari, the colors are the same as in Photoshop. When "saving for web devices" and creating an animated .gif, the colors immediately become desaturated viewed from Photoshop.

My working space, and destination space are both "sRGB IEC61966-2.1".

My question is, is this a problem beginning in Photoshop that I can fix, or is this issue out of my control and depends on the viewing devices and the profiles they support. I'd be exceedingly grateful for any thoughts or suggestions.

[Update]

Okay, I may have figured this out. It seems to not desaturate the images when I put the working space profile on "ColorSync RGB - Generic RGB Profile"...If anyone even cares.

Your best bet is to just strip out the gamma information in pngs.

Also, make sure you calibrate your monitor to use 2.2 gamma and D65 white point, to match the default settings of PCs and televisions.

I had similar problems, I just changed (edit/assign?) a color profile to something PC I think (sRGB). Also, since I have a second screen, I've PC calibrated that (2.2). that way I can slide documents over to make sure it looks decent in both 1.8 and 2.2.

I prefer working in 1.8 now, it gives me better control of the darks.
