If you'd   posted it in general, there wouldn't have been a point.  Looking at this in the pixel art section assumes that we're going to see some pixel art.

Why such a big deal? i see nothing against what i did on the rules section, besides i posted a shot already, what else do you need?

It would have been nice if you posted screenshots and a link to the zip. Just keep that in mind next time. And tell us about the game a bit, so we know what we are about to download.

Crits:

Graphics:
They are alright, player ship needs a tilt animation when going up and down, 5 frames would be enough, 1 up, 1 down, 1middle and 1 transition frame.
The background needs a lot spiffing up, it's just bland, but i take it you know that.

Music:
Two words: Fucking annoying.

Gameplay:
Powering up like that is a nice idea, but the leveldesign should be so that you can get way more enemies. Half of the enemies can't be killed because you are to slow.
Enemy waves are boring as hell, all in all this is too slow. Needs nice waves of enemies. Also it's not challenge whatsoever. It's very very easy and boring as well.

Needs refinement, but could turn out nice with effort.

I don't mind that the Bunny talks. I don't mind that at all. However, the phrases that he spout make me feel like ramming the imbecile into the ground (Which I did! And it made me feel so much better.) Seriously, the idiotic phrases need to go... unless he's supposed to sound like a 13 year-old ass-tard on AIM.

Sorry. I feel very passionate about this.

I thought about mentioning that as well. Also it's "scum" not "scumb".

I have had a bad experience with SHMUPs(I was abused by Gradius as a child) and so will not be playing this.

Graphics are nice, although as a whole it's pretty bland and empty.

The controls don't work for me. Well, the arrow keys do, but not the other buttons.

OK, thanks for the comments, i tried to adress the most inmediate things, but some are left simple for the moment (like the waves of enemies, tough thereīs a "new one introduced)

Beta 0.6

I should say, that the game has been in development for about 3 days, thatīs why its so basic right now, so any ideas you would like to see in a shooter, fire them up.

Also, hereīs a sketch of the main char for those interested

Thats some pretty harsh shit.

I didn't play the game, but what i see is .. comfortable. Nothing to spazzy, but it just feels "stiff" to me. Also, your farthest mountains look like penis', and that moon looks crazy familiar? Krut?

Cool stuff.

So does the level just keep going like that with no enemies after you destroy that longer ship?

I also really like the moon ... the colours on the lips are great.

Relax, sport.  I was just explaining "the point" you didn't get earlier, I wasn't trying to ruin your day.

Think you posted that moon as part of a piece before.. it was badass then and it still is now.  The only thing that threw me off about the game was that the little powerup/xp thingies are a little ambiguous, I ran away from the first few because I thought they might be bullets.

The music in the first beta isn't really that annoying.. sounds like the town music from castlevania 2 in a peppier key.  The music in the latest demo is much more fitting though.  Too bad the enemies run out right when the score gets intense.

I did not want to be harsh, just honest.

I play a LOT of shmups, so in that respect i know what i am talking about in terms of gameplay. And it would be nice to know what kind of gameplay you envision for this in the end. At the moment it's not even remotly challenging and a braindead monkey with no limbs could clear it just fine.

I like the updates you made in the new build. The new graphics look nice and the music is a HUGE step up.

Keep at it. If i was you i would work on the gameplay first before making tons of graphics.

Also i recognised a z-sorting bug with the clouds and the mountains, but i guess you are aware of that.

Cheers

if you press forward and backward at the same time, the ship goes down. This is not good. Instead, you can do one of the following techniques that are mostly used: either when front or back is pressed, and then you press the other key, it's ignored, or you can go with the 'newest keypress overrides' mode. Both are equally fine. front+back=down doesn't work at all, though.

Since there's no enemy shooting at you at the moment, it's hard to tell if the gameplay has any merit. It's all down to how difficult it is, how difficult it feels and how much it makes you want to replay... quite the x-factor in this sort of game. When it's more finished there'll be more to say.

You're not that familiar with TGF, are you? I mean, the code looks great and all, but none of your animations have hotspots in decent places... like you haven't discovered the existance of them yet. With hotspots and actoin points set in proper locations, you would only need one shot type, for example, and stick-on animations would be easier to set right etc. Also, it'd be easier to use Bouncing Ball movement for the enemies.

Try it out if you haven't. Options -> Show -> Hot spot in the animation editor.

Art-wise, I have absolutely no complaints. Looks sweet. Literally. Like, sugary sweet.

play this c64 game on an emulator for gameplay ideas. Seriously. It's one of the best games of the type ever.

im not the best when it coems to being in the "know" but wouldnt a jazzy background draw attention away from the small planes ?

Nice progress. I think the game looks real good and has a very cute soft-style. I'd say keep it this way, for the feel of the game.

It all depends on how well you balance playership, enemyship and bullets against the background.

Examplescreen from Dodonpachi. Even tho it is rather colourful you can always tell what's going on. This is the 5th level i think, hence it might look a bit hectic :D

much better gameplay-wise.  You've added a real challenge to it now, I like the matching ship/shot color thing.

A few issues though--if you shoot a ship with the wrong color, it seems to sometimes become indestructible after that.
Nevermind the first comment, just figured it out--if you shoot it with the wrong color, you have to shoot it with the right color additional times to undo that, definitely ups the difficulty a lot.

Also, there's a part where the green shot mysteriously turns yellow o.O  Oh, and the issue that was mentioned earlier about if you push forward and backwards at the same time it goes down is still unresolved.

Last critique before I go--the sun sprite is cool, but it doesn't have as much character as the moon does...maybe try to tweak it just a little?  Not sure exactly what would make it better, I just like the moon more...

I'm probably in the minority but I liked the simple gradient background better. It gives the game a nice consistent look and feel, sort of old-school style. As for the gameplay, making it faster and having the enemies move would be good for starters (might be slow because of my POS pc, I dunno).
