Title: The Inn - [wip]
Post by: zi on February 05, 2009, 01:35:41 pm
Something like extension of old work Water Mill (http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=6466.0). This is Inn on which I work in free time. Need some farm houses for the animals.

Many areas aren't ready, well isn't situated, idea of the trees is from Arachne, need more inhabitants and current maybe need repairs, maybe need more contrast. Also some elements like strap of the horse are missing, earth is just to have some background ets., but if you have some crits will be pleasure for me.

PS
The colours was 32 before I add 1 strong blue and 1 strong red for musketeers.

You've made great progress since the previous one. I like this.
Maybe you should keep an eye on the dirt, not to make it too noisy or contrasty but good work ; keep it up.

I love how even though you could have easily just copy/pasted two instances of your tree, you didn't.

Oh, and the lightsource on the trees opposite of the rest of the scene.

That is enough to read about progress fil_razorback, thanks I'll try to clear it.

Some progress. Wooden fence need portal. I'm afraid that cattle-shed have too big area with empty roof. This buildings are simple, but maybe must think for something more!

Nice.

I would like to see some grass texture. You could hint at a grass texture on the outline of the shadows and throw a few patches here and there.

Your work's great--I especially like the purplish shadows... I think it adds a lot of dimension and interest not to have just straight color ramps. I also love the shadow cast by the balcony dealie on the main building.

However, the trees really pop out (in a bad way). They seem overly contrast-y and even a bit shiny with the yellow highlights and blueish-greenish shadows. I'd substitute the highly saturated yellow-greens for something softer and perhaps more blue.

I also think you don't need to delineate every leaf on the viney things scattered about the grounds. Leaves aren't always neatly separated; more overlap could make them look more natural.

But keep up the great pixelling! :)

Mmmm I love those kind of arts ;) Will you make better grass of smthing? Or maybe you can add some animations?

blumunkee I plan to make some small places with grass when I need.
Hydronium change 2 green which come from the shadows over the wall and was good for shadow places, but was very cold for sunny, also suggest me to change cold blue for shadows with more purple.
Souly Thanks will try to keep so fresh and clean - that is what I want to improve :)
KAT here is small idea for cyclic animation ... maybe to the end will make more.

McClaneGames first must finish with big object and than ;)

Just for information: I'm not 100% shure that gipsy is from this epoch, but before many many years I see peoples like that. Also they lead and bears, but I'm not plan bear in the moment :)

My little brother commented that this looks like a Town Center from Age of Empires. The detail of your work, is at the very least, inspirational. Keep up the great work!

One thing I notice: The man standing on the wooden deck is not casting a shadow on the wood or onto the ground below.

Very nice :y:

Its making me nauseous thinking about all that pixel work.

Is this part of a project or just for fun?

I believe it's for Pixeldam  :D

is there any reason why the roof tiles on the bottom building are so poorly contructed/drawn in comparison to the other roof tiling?

Boazadreal maybe like age of musketeer :) Yep until I'm not shure for object are they in right place prefer don't make shadows. For that man I'm not shure is he stay on the best place.
EvilEye like Fuzzyleaves say, it's for Pixeldam for fun, because want to clear details in my works. I dislike previous and better is to make new. Also want to keep colours less.
Indigo keep from previous unfinished work. I Was lazy to repair so big space like roof, because not been shure that the building is good, but under your suggestion today repair the roof and will keep the building.

Incredible piece of work so far, Zi!  ;D Most people probably would have stopped one or two stages ago, but you just keep on going making is more and more impressive. I love the amount of detail you're managing to get into your tiny characters. The colour palette and low count boggles my mind. How did you manage to come up with such invention for all of your buildings? Each seems so unique and well planned out, you must've gone through some early sketches/planning stages, surely? If it's an on-the-fly job, I'll be stunned!

I looked at this topic from time to time, and it shows a great process.
IŽam usally not a big fan of iso stuff, mostly because its often to clean and consist of simple shapes.
But you have managed to put in some many little details and with good pixelart.

Its your duty to get this finished of course  ;)

Just me who thinks the color you use to shade the buildings are abit off? dark blue/green. I think it would look much better with either a darker shade of the highlighted walls or purpleish

TheInquisitor I train patience :( From different ways some are look at from shots or another digital works, some are fabricated also for some make precise lineart for another just sketch and than add all elements wall corners /inside or outside/, beams where need, ets. Every time try something different. Like example roof for the stable make 3 or 4 times until keep it. Maybe simple answer is that I'm civil engineer, and that help me enough :)
vierbit be shure that your comment is like duty !
Timpa change a bit colours because have problem with ramps between violet for shadows and brown for ground and green for grass, also have problem with them to be with enough contrast when I use only 1 colour palette.

Have many unfinished parts, but main question is to make small animations or not. Because in the work have too many elements which have motion and will stay static?

Nice. The animation would be a nice finishing touch.

I'd like to see the fire and the sword fight animated in particular. Don't forget to add some glow to the fire and the building.

One little nit-pick: The dog's tail-wag looks more like he's shaking his butt, although maybe that's what you were going for, it looks awkward to me.

Besides that, marvelous work. Your work is easily my favorite in all that I have seen in PixelDam.

Can't say I like the purple used for the smoke. I think it should be mainly black and maybe purple highlights or such.

In my opinion, the fire is currently out of place with the rest of the pic. When a building catches fire, that's an exciting event that draws much attention. Currently, there are three people within close range that are currently ignoring it. No one is pointing at it, none of the nearby people seem to be really concerned about it. It almost sends the message that this place catches fire so often, no one really cares about it anymore.

With the left row of buildings all being connected, having one of them on fire should have the attention of everyone of pretty much everyone in the town, as people are going to be yelling "FIRE!" and making a production of it.

Don't get me wrong, it looks great. It just doesn't flow for me that there'd be a building on fire, and everyone is relaxed and going about their day as usual.

As Fidsah said, the fire needs to have more attention drawn to it.  If a building next to me caught on fire, I doubt I'd just be standing there doing nothing. ;)
And if the dog is animated, I think you should add animations to more people/objects.
