Title: Fantasy Tales Online animations
Post by: Gil on January 20, 2009, 06:25:13 pm
Maybe some old-timers might remember this project, some might even have worked on it at some point. This thing is still going strong after 6 years or so. Time for an update.

Okay, there's a deadline on these, so I'm basically taking a last bit of comments to see if anything still needs working on. I'm pretty pleased overall so far, so I'm probably not going to do big overhauls on these. Thanks to Biomors for a lot of edits and comments so far.

And some examples of the template in use.

Have at it. Designs of half of these costumes by Z_gravity, exection by me

Everyone in such a wide stance looks a bit funny. The hands on the template are noodly, but I like the characters and palettes. Give a bit of an edge to the elbow to remove the continuous round line from the neck to the tip of the fingers.
The single pixel nudge up and down on the whole character as well as his buttocks looks too harsh to me, you could try sub-pixelling the movement. If you're making a game out of these, I'm really looking forward to killing those characters  :y:

Yeah, the wide stance, I know. At first I was going to get rid of it, but it sorta grew on me. As for the noodly arms, that's definately my style, plus something that has been part of the game's style for 7 years now.

I like the comment about making the elbows sharper, that would allow me to make it look better without sacrificing the noodlyness. As you can see, the fat one and the back view do have something sharper and it does look better. I'll look into it.

Thanks for the comments, and you'll be killing them soon enough. The game is being developed rapidly with over 2000 lines of code added each month. I think we're over 30000 lines already :)

It's an MMO, so the size of this thing and people involved over the years is staggering.

Subpixeled the butt.

I can't seem to find a better way to handle the arms, been spending some time on it. Any edits are welcome.

Is it one size fits all for the base, or will you have more body types? For instance, will you make a muscular base?

This is the only body type for a player character for now. NPCs can be more buff though. Or fat, like the sumo wrestler NPC above.

I like the fit, but not buff look. It's kinda the look I'm rocking I guess. I have those long spindly arms too. Actually, I'm probably just drawing myself subconciously.

Images dont show up until I paste the sumo guy's URL directly. This puzzles me.
