Title: platformer characters
Post by: skado on January 03, 2009, 08:30:20 pm
Hi,

This is my first attempt at pixel art. I'm working on a platformer(also a first). I'm usually not an artist, but wanted to make the monsters to the best of my ability while continuing through.

The first character I made is a boss. He's a plunger. Was hoping to get some critiques on him.

He's this size in the game.

The actual plunger part (not sure if there's a name for that) looks flat. Design-wise, the handle might look better if it was a little thinner.

He also big for a platformer.. Each of your pixels is actually nine pixels, by my count. If he's going to be that size, why not use the opportunity to make him a little more detailed?

The eyes are nine, the rest are sixteen. Not sure why I shrunk the eyes.

I agree with the handle being thinner, that was going to be the next thing to work on.

Update:

I gave him a bit more detail, shrunk the handle a tiny bit. I'd like to keep him flat looking I think. Sort of goes with the idea of other characters I have.

Also, the main character looks like:

to put him in a size perspective. Something about the devil's nose ticks me off.
