Meaning you haven’t figured out where it came from.

it's from a mythbusters commercial
http://www.bfro.net/upload/news/mythbusters.asp

I suggest for anyone to check out the http://www.bfro.net website, it's a great site for research on bigfoot.

That was an awesome commercial (and I should record it)... My brother checks out those sites all the time. He visits http://www.bfro.net   and   http://gcbro.com . He suggests people check out reports for their local area.

Going to briefly promote this awesome site: http://www.musicmobs.com/ . Great online music tools (rss included). You can see which other users are most similar to you, upload playlists, and get automated recommendations based on up to 3 artists you enter ( http://www.musicmobs.com/recommendations ). Site benefits from your use of iTunes, however both OSX and Windows platforms are supported, and I believe anybody can submit playlists.

You can see stats on my collection here :)

Nice stuff, Pep. I like seeing Pizzicato Five and Bjork in the same list.
But yeah. If you like Pizzicato and 8-bit music, check out http://www.ymck.net/e/sound.html . YMCK is great.

Thanks Monsoon. Bjork's Debut is probably my favorite.

Here are some goodies for you, or anybody else, assuming you haven't seen these before:

Sunet's demoscene music archives:

Everything fun and loungey from Comfort Stand:
http://www.comfortstand.com/catalog.html

I've yet to hear them all... downloaded Various Artists - Two Zombies Later a while ago and would say it has some nice items.

Most of the songs in that Various Artists - Two Zombies Later batch sound very similar to Fantastic Plastic Machine.
And I LOVE FPM.
Thanks for the links, Pep.

Yeah. Plant them and push people in them. Save them a for a "visiting friend". I usually wait for my friend to go on a bathroom break, and push him into one, and plant a few more around him.

Cool, I just finished watching War Of the Worlds and I got to thinking, with the Half Life 2 engine and even some levels and even a few enemies from there it would make a kicking War of the Worlds game.  Not another crappy movie game but actually a cool game.  Not sure how you could incorporate cool weapons, perhaps you could be the military reacting to the invasion.  Or even be the invaders!  VALVE DO IT!  Just for heavens sake dont use Steam.

What's the ending like[for the movie]? I've only read the book, and the lame aliens dying from the flu ending really turned me off. Is the movie ending equal to or less than the book ending?

He he he I made several final fantasy fans rather angry when I showed them this Final Fantasy XI online XBOX beta disk, and the article about 2 exclusive xbox 360 games by Square Enix.  They almost cried...  <3 The pain of Final Fantasy and Full Metal Alchemist fans make me giggle like the Pillsbury man.  “IT’S NOT A LOINCLOTH YOU IDIOT, IT’S A SUIT OF ARMOR NOT A ROBOT!”   “YOU MAKE ME SO ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR~R!!!~!!!” Sorry had to shorten the letter, it wouldn't fit in the post box…
Sorry to all the fans we had this argument before, you can love it as much as you want but I am adamant about my opinion and I refuse to change it, they are beautiful games but I can't stand them.  I bought 5 played it for a few mins and threw it out (returned it to store, I dont waste money), I played through 7 because I lost a bet, fighting it all the way, and sat through 15 mins of that …movie type thing… is it a movie?  Serious question or was it an extended cut sceen?

I vote you keep it long, I like my hair the same way...  Just not past my shoulders. To the end of my ear lobes and I'll be happy (I love girls with short hair yet you look great with it long, and im a sucker for most redheads, aslong as they dont pull their hair back, if they let if flow I am their puppet, yet as soon as they pull it back I dont like it),CON'T; enough for me to cover my eyes so I can sleep in geo...and spanish.  I don't understand why we have to take a second language.  If you come to America learn English its a simple as that, your comming here I'm not going there, learn blasted English.  You can speak your own language at home or with your friends but in public areas you should speak the language of the land!
(Oh I am 15)  No this is not racist in anyway.  Let me give you an example.
There is a farmer who went to school in Peru and graduated high school a tourist from Japan went there and liked his farm and wanted a look around.  The farmer agreed and showed her around because he knew that tourists wanted to see how real farms ran all the time.  Yet she snuck away to see horses.  She had always wanted to see horses but in her life in the city there was no horses.  So she snuck into the stable, yet there was a new horse that had just came in.  A rough horse that hadn’t been broken.  She tried to pet it but the horse wouldn’t let her, and kicked her across the room.  She couldn’t breath and she had asthma.  She needed her inhaler in her purse.  The farmer heard the horse and came running in seeing the Japanese woman on the floor.  She tried to tell him to get her inhaler but she didn’t speak Spanish and the farmer didn’t speak Japanese and she was unable to explain what she needed.  The farmer called nueve uno uno yet by the time they got there she was dead.  Tell me who is most at fault?  The farmer for not speaking Japanese, or the woman for not speaking Spanish?  (Don’t count her sneaking away as her fault)  Its not the farmers fault, if you are going somewhere learn the language if not your fine.  The people who come to you should learn your language!

Agreed.
Though I'd still like to learn German and Japanese, I'm taking Spanish...Mandatorily.
I don't want to go to Spain.
Or Mexico.
No offense to the people that live there...I'm sure they're wonderful places.
But I'd rather not learn a language I'm not likely to use in it's...homeland.

 >:( I'm from Venezuela and I speak English, but is everyone's desition to learn a languaje or not, not because you do or don't have interest in visiting some place, and believeme spain and mexico are not the only 2 countryes in the world where people speak spanish, that comment sounded mean! :( , is just the fact, that you learn something new!, a new languaje, could mean many things, that maybe if you don't go for them, you will miss them, like a job oprtunity, to grow in your career, maybe to find that special person to spend your lifetime, you never know, when are you going to need that.

In my personal opinion, and i don't mean to offense anybody, is if you don't wanna learn something new having the oportunity, is because you wanna be an ignorant! I believe, that the only way to save the world is trough knowledge, educated people are peaceful, and they  tend to preserve.

Aprendan español!

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as rude, and I hadn't even though about such other things like job opportunities. And I know that there are many other Spanish-speaking countries...many, many.
I still think I'd be learning another language if I were more interested in it. Again, I've nothing against the language or the people that speak it, but to me it's difficult to learn because I'm just not that...enthused.

If I may join the discussion, the world's ten biggest languages are (in this order): Chinese, English, Spanish, Hindi, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Bengali, Portuguese, and Japanese. So yeah, it could be a good idea to learn Spanish. Be happy you have the opportunity to learn it in school. It's always harder to learn languages the older you get.

I don't want to come off as a wise-ass or something, or shove facts up your face. It's just that I know four languages and I still think I should know more to get by. Only English isn't always sufficient.

More people speak english in china then in america...

[mixed thoughts]I vote for a worldwide language, I don’t care what it is, Chinese Spanish or Swahili, just one language, to make the work a much better place.  If they set one universal language then I will be glad to learn it.  Yet by learning one two or even three different languages while a great accomplishment there is still thousands of other languages and you just learned a drop in the bucket.  So is it that important to try and learn all of the different languages?  If they are going to require it why stop at one?  Knowing 2 languages wont help that much, it wont expand on my life greatly, if I want to speak to everyone I shall learn all the languages.  Yet I don’t want to speak with everyone, I feel different languages are ways to keep things secret.  Like Windtalkers because the enemies didn’t know the language they didn’t know what was going on. Yet if all of our soldiers knew that language the enimies would only have to capture one to ruin our plan.  [/mixed thoughts]

I'm in the process of learning French and am slightly surprised that it's not in the top ten languages. I mean, it covers France, some west Germany, a lot of Africa, eastern Canada and a lot of Caribbean islands.

My mom wanted me to learn Mandarin Chinese, but there aren't many places besides mainland China, Singapore and Malaysia that it's spoken. Plus I don't feel the need to know it and if I ever do, I will.

It's the base for all (or most) germanic languages isn't it? I guess its like language history. I know a bit of latin like vomitarium - a room in which guests go to throw up in order to make room for more feasting. That alone should make you want to learn other languages. Find and read the meaning of tingo (book). It is excellent.

Latin is Teh Classic. Mom read latin in school. Over here, everyone had to, way back then. Besides, there's plenty of cool things to be found in Latin. Not to mention everything that's got to do with flowers and animals has a bunch of Latin in it, and that it's got connections to a ton of others.

Volvo is Latin...
Title: Re: Official Pixelopolis Off-Topic Thread
Post by: Panda on January 24, 2006, 06:50:59 am
Latin is pretty much the base for most of the languages spoken on those countries which once where invaded by the Roman Empire (lots of bits of Europe, - Italian, Spanish, Portuguese to mention a few- ), and on those that were invaded (or as they like to say, "discovered") by countries that once back in the past where invaded by the Romans (Both parts of America for example).
And some of the languages aren't exactly a result from Latin's evolution, but they still use words with Latin roots. (and words with both latin and greek roots mixed, like biology comes from bio=life and logos=word)
And while it is a dead language, for example in Biology everyone will understand what you are talking about if you mention the latin name. And of course for those who study language history and so on, need it.

I guess it is just useful depending on your goals, but nonetheless interesting.

1st language in scool here is usually english.

btw.: What exactley makes a "Commie" dirty? I ask this because i just read an interesting
book about the russian jews (Trotzki for example) and the "Commie" revution  against the
Tzar, and i feel like there is a big difference between mad "apparatschicks" like in NorthKo. and
revolutionary freedomfighters like those wich died in NaziKZs. But thats just an opinion.

I think the idea of a universal language as required by some law seems a bit loopy. Sounds like something the UN would want to put to a vote or something like that. English is already widely available across much of the world due to the need to be able to quickly communicate with your trading partner. And the idea of having a single language would really start to piss off some people as language is deeply linked to all cultures. Even if you did pass such a thing, you're going to have a hell of a fight on your hands to get people to actually accept it. Like in Canada, the desire of the people in Quebec to keep whatever is left of their French identity has led to them suppressing parts of the Charter on language so the only language allowed in Quebec is French.

I wonder if it could be possible to get all the cached pages and make a torrent with some of the threads... those such as this one, quite helpful.

It's very rude for you to assert your beliefs on other people, and on top of that, they are very discriminatory beliefs. It's also sort of crossing into racism.

I don't think you should be trusted with sharp objects.

The depth of political argumentation in this thread is profound.

Indeed, I am shocked by such profundity, we should change this forum into a political discussion board!

It's not a well known fact that Canada's gigantic beavers can easily chew through the armor of an M1 Abrams battle tank. Even the smaller specimens have been known to bite humvees in half and then crap IEDs.

"Canada, LOL!"

At least no one hates your country... that's something to be proud about (as in "not mediocre").

Eh? What's racist?
He was refering to Mercury's educated post, the one directly above Evan's.

The colors go well together, and the triangle design thing looks new, but it's kinda hard to read, since it doesn't follow a certain flow, pieces of text just jump around without order. And i feel a strange urge to start folding it along the lines, see what comes out... origami? :)

I in particular have found it distressing how the myth of the friendly, industrious beaver that fits in one's hands still exists in much of the world. As a Canadian I was shaking my head during many of 'The Chronicles of Narnia's' beaver scenes. Had the beaver's been represented true to life, we would have seen a much more one-sided final battle. .

The term racism and racist is used way too loosely.  I said nothing bad about a distinct group so its not racism.  Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another, which I do not think is true, I believe in minorities and that they are shifting but not that one entire race is better than any other.  Well also to be speaking of a race that must include the people and I said nothing bad about the people just the corporeal country.  And I was not forcing my beliefs, that’s is why there was a voting system.  Also I never said in any of my posts I wanted the worldwide language to be English.  Which no one said directly but you alluded to it.  Topic dropped.
Now what TV shows/Movies do you look forward to in the upcoming couple of weeks?
Me I watch my daily CSI and my MythBusters on Wednesday other than that I am too busy to watch anything else… as far as the Movie front, honestly the only movies I'm waiting for is Date Movie and Scary Movie 4.  Movies arn't comming out for a while but I can wait.

On a lighter note...

Art.com's Artpad is probably the worst drawing "tool" ever, but I stll like to use it for the occasional doodle. If you're bored, here are a few I've done over the past week or so. If nothing else, they're fun to watch. (Start at the bottom of the list first, please.)

1-24-06 Girl. Meh. (http://artpad.art.com/?itokr8c70jw)
1-24-06 Dairy King. (http://artpad.art.com/?itm6bkfrxak)
1-20-06 For The Kids. (http://artpad.art.com/?itdbiyhhfss)
1-18-06 Old Faucet. (http://artpad.art.com/?itazfb2tsi8)

"I think ones and innie and ones an outy"
You’d think half way through that the artist would notice the fact that his chest and the rest of his body are 2 different perspectives.

At least splat's stuff doesn't show much effort to attain anatomical perfection.
That guy's stuff looks like he's actually trying...which makes it even worse. :-X
