Title: Secret Santa 2008 - The Sign up is OVER + all PMs SENT!

So it is that time of the year again :D

The Secret Santa, for those who are not familiar with it, is an annoymous gift exchanging activity.
Basically, you will be making a present for someone and receiving another one.
The catch is that you know who you are giving it to, but not who is giving it to you, which makes it a very enjoyable and thrilling activity.
In our case, since we are Pixelation and all, we will be dealing with "pixel gifts".

Only those who sign up in this thread will be able to take part in it.
If you intend to do so, read carefully this thread.

First of all, here are some things you should be aware of:


The sign up starts today (November 15th, 2008), and will be open until November 24th (Monday; so you have 9 days to sign up).
You can sign up until I temporarily close the thread, so don't miss your chance.
Once closed, no more participants will be accepted.

Shortly after the sign up is over, you will receive a PM (Personal Message) with the name of the person you have to pixel for.
Then you will have until December 23rd to finish your gift.

Once you are done with yours, please PM me the gift and your partner's name, so I can organize the whole thing before Christmas.

Q&A

What is a "Pixel Gift"?
A pixel gift is basically a pixel art piece you will be giving your partner. It can be anything, from an animation, to an avatar or a full fledged picture.
Whatever you want, as long as it is pixelled.

I will be away on December 23rd, Can I still participate?
Sure. You do not have to deliver the gift exactly ON December 23rd. You can send it in as soon as you are done (actually I would recommend everyone to do this).
So as long as you can deliver it on time, you are good to go.

How are you going to pick the partners?
First I will be assigning everyone a number according to the order you sign up.
Then I will be running this random sequence generator (http://www.random.org/sequences/) and everyone will get a new number.
After that I will re-run the generator once again to pick the order.

I couldn't finish my gift... Can I send in a WIP?
Yes, but you will still get a strike, and you must finish it as soon as you can. Or else!  >:(

Can I pixel a gift for someone that is not my partner?
Sure, feel free to make extra gifts, but before that focus on your partner's.

You can pick one for your partner (when doing so, address to them as A2 or B3 etc).

- Legends and Myths (particularly those with monsters)
- Awesome color combinations
- Games (esp. The Legend of Zelda and RPGs like Dragon Quest, Retro ones, etc...)

I figure this is a fun opportunity to get involved with Pixelation. I must profess that unlike many of the other people here, I am not the greatest at art, but that said, I figure this is a fun challenge.

* Game mockups -- I make indie games in my spare time, so if you fire me a pretty mockup, I'd consider helping you make the mockup into actual GAME.

Favourite colours: blue and black (thereafter green and purple). I hate pink.
I would be thrilled to get something of my original characters (found here: http://bluedelirium.com/main.html > characters).
But if you don't feel like doing any of them, then I also like mockups, Pokémon, Phoenix Wright, Zelda (Link, Ezlo and Tingle), cute monsters, frogs, fantasy stuff, monkeys, rain, and hot guys (of course).
If you do fanart, then I'd prefer if it was personalized for me somehow :crazy: (you know, not just a random sprite of Link). Crossovers with my characters would be awesome.

I like lots of things. Just draw something in your own style, and I'll be happy :). If you want something more to go by, something atmospheric would be nice perhaps. Or something to cheer me up. Little details are nice. (will maybe edit later if I think of something else)

I said this many times, but DON'T FORGET TO PIXEL IT BEFORE THE DUE DATE!

Make the most wickedawesome pixel art thing you can possibly manage for whoever you got! If that means a 1024X768 wallpaper, hammer on.

I will not be able to participate this year. Things have gotten rather busy for myself lately.
Too many exams and projects... and then I would like some rest.

Last year I found myself struggling to get anything done before the deadline(because of pure lack of inspiration and my person really provided no good hobbies or likes for me to work off of), and my end result was less-than-stellar, to the point I'm pretty sure whoever got mines was more than disappointed. I wish I could have participated again, but I don't think I'm up to it and I'd hate to send off a shoddy present again.

I'm pretty damn excited to see what everyone's made, though. Pumped to see what I'm getting... but really, it's as if any one gift is a gift to everyone, even though it's tailor-made for one specific person.

Uhm, I guess you can PM someone (who isn't your secret santa partner, obviously) and get crits from them. Or if you happen to chat with anyone from pixelation or that knows about pixel art, I guess they wouldn't mind helping you either.

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY!

So far I got less than half of the gifts, so hurry up or else  :mean:

Since some of the mods thought the banning was too harsh, this year we are going with strikes just to see how it works, but don't think you'll be safe without making a gift.
If you don't deliver anything by 23rd, you'll automatically get a strike.
Then you'll have a week (meaning your new due date is December 30th) to work on it. If you still don't send anything finished, you'll get your second one.
And then again, you will get another week (Until January 6th), and if you don't deliver anything, you will be BANNED.

As for people with WIPs, PM me your reasons when sending in your gifts, and I'll decide how to act on it. But try to work as much as you can.
(By the way, this is only for people who send WIPs by the 23rd)
 

Oh and if you end up getting a strike, all your "karma cookies" will dissappear aswell.
