Hello everyone,
I made this video tutorial on tiles. it's a 45 minute video, pretty much the basics.
Helm has kindly provided the space, so if you are advanced pixel artists, please refrain from downloading, we dont wanna drain out Helm's bandwidth!
also, if anyone can mirror this, it would be great! :D
this is the link:
www.locustleaves.com/MarcoVale_Tiles_PixelArt_ENG.avi (http://www.locustleaves.com/MarcoVale_Tiles_PixelArt_ENG.avi)
right click save as.
it's WMV9, 81 Mega. its narrated in english, not as good as the previous narration (Portuguese, done in realtime)
and this is the outcome:

hope you like it,
take care!

Everybody, watch this (just be careful with the bandwidth heh) even if you're not beginners. A peek in the mind of the artist as he works proved very illuminating for me, so why not for you too!
-
Yup, I watched it yesterday. Very professional (yeah, I know you hate that word =)
This should be number one tutorial for beginner tile artists, it covers many important points.
I liked that you didn't just go and draw those tiles, but also very well explained WHY it should be drawn like that. Many facts are useful not only for tiles, but for sprites too.
In short... good job =) Are you already thinking about making another one?
BTW, I'm guessing English is not your first language?
-
no! I'm acctualy Portuguese
as for other tutorials, I've put up a ship tutorial, I could translate it case you guys wanna get it too. but i'll need hosting again
thanks for the comments!
and please come up with sugestions for more tutorials
take care

and please come up with sugestions for more tutorials
"Fighter Sprites" and "Trees," please.
-
well... that's kind of hard!!!
lol
I can do some about figure drawing , but not sure if I can make a fighter sprite one. because they are so much about style rather than tecnical issues
and you can't teach style. you can teach the guides to mimic it tough...
trees are not my best eigther but I can see what I can do! :D

Not your best, perhaps, but you're still damn good at them. At least the small ones.
Awesome job on that. Thou hast inspired me! And I love your color selection there, too.

Nice tutorial, indeed! I realised that I've never actually seen someone else pixel something before. It was nice to see someone else in action! I look forward to more tutorials!
-
haven't watch it yet,
however, might i recommend checking google videos or youtube if the quality doesn't have to be 100%? they're great video services and i do believe they support avi ;)
-
This is indeed a fine tut for all beginners. Nicely done. (^o^)b

I never knew how to set up a grid in photoshop, now I do! :D
But I use paint :-[

AAAAHH!!! That was amazing. I just watched it and I think it's the best video tutorial I've seen in my life. The speech isn't the best but I'm not complaining; your words hold enough information to keep me listening. The most important part is that I think that the tutorial contains exactly what the title suggests. Information about how to create tiles for a platform game. As a pleasant surprise you actually showed a nice example of tiling the images to a fun map.
Really impressed! Looking forward to your future video tutorials. Hopefully you will be doing more, because if you do, I guess.. You're video tutorials will become legendary resources for all the pixelartist-to-be. Haha, that's worth it! ;)
