Post by: Ro83rt on January 01, 2006, 04:05:46 am
Well, I tried to come up with my own style of pixel art. All dithering and no AA. I think it came out ok. comments and critics are welcomed and expected.

I hope you have a Happy New Year too! :)

Besides that...
Well...
I love your signature. :D
The small sprite got better. Yay.
The style probably looks better via flat shading, to conform with the small sprite. Of course, in matters of style, many things are controversial, so whatever floats your boat. Haha.
His clothes are too thick. Man. That samurai is suffocating in there. Make the scarf less symmetric, add a tail to it, like in the sprite... and his shoulders seem... well... very off. That sprite is much more anatomically correct. Try using it to help better some very strange things you have in the portrait.

The colors are dull. Why dithering? You should use hue variations. Vary the hues of the shades. Add a highlight to the ball on his head also. I hope that helps.

What do you mean by controversial? All I did was use dithering to shade everything. I know its not recomended but I wanted to see how it would come out.

EDIT

Here's version 2 taking into account some of the suggestions.
