Been pixeling for a few months now and thaught it would be a good idea to try some rpg style sprites. So here it is

looks alright so far,
give us some insight as to the direction you want to take it, and we can gauge how well you are lining up with it.
When I look at the sprite, I feel the joints in the body aren't represented as well as they could be. The shading should help make the joints clearer, but at the moment it just makes the joints seem confusing, such as the shading near the armpits are doing and the shading near the ankles..
I'm wondering why he has no neck, if that is part of your style and what the reason for it is.
seems overall a good start though.

My edit: (http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/6647/malesprite2xa4.png)

I was assuming you wanted a deformed Stretch-Armstrong like character with Popeye-esque arms and extremely short legs.  If that wasn't what you were going for, then you at least know what you need to change, heh.

The biggest edit I did was made your character's arms more relaxed, because even if they were just a big elastic curve, they would probably be affected by gravity when he's not moving them.

Also, selout can be horrible if done wrong (most advise against it, period), and it's definitely done wrong in your sprites.  You should use a more solid outline.

Where are his calves?  Where is the bottom half of his face?  Where is his neck?  Where are his shoulders?  What is the deal with the belly there?  Don't feel like you need to present a realistic character by any means, but the proportions of this character could use a lot of work.  My first impression looking at this piece is "this artist has a very limited grasp of human anatomy" rather than "wow this is a cute stylized character."  This is not the end of the world or anything!  Just bust out the sketchpad and try out some different body shapes and proportions until you're able to work in some of those useful body parts.  Like the lower legs!
