I've just realized that I can't make small sprites :wah:. But I need them badly so here goes what I've made until now. C+C please, and be as cruel as you want.

I feel your pain. ;p I'm not really an artist so all I can give you is my general impressions. I think it looks pretty good though.
I'm not sure I dig the eyes, they kinda look like sunglasses when I zoom out. Color choices make him kinda bland, like the green hat - the top of his hair really blends into it. There's something I don't dig about him not really having a neck, but with the height of the sprite your going for I dunno what you could do.
How's that for unhelpful. ;p

The only thing bothering me is those dark outlines on his pants. At this scale, having too much contrast between an outline and a shape can look like selout, even if it's not.

With so much torso rotation the far arm shouldn't always be visible. Make it go away when the other arm is forward. Well, I can see that it kind of does, but it's still got more frames of visibility than it should

Good start. Tho I do agree with Xion and also that blob on his shirt looks like an artefact from his hand when in motion. I think it does not really work and you might want to use another colour there.
