you're using a 2nd light source and not just a funky neon outline right?

i think the green on the arm is making it look like his arm has no wrist or muscle structure

yeah ambient lighting.... i see what you mean about the wrist, i'll fix that.

there's nothing ambient about it!  it's just another direct lightsource.

ambient light is supposed to be atmospheric and therefor subdued and softened.  yours is neon and sharp....

I like the second light source--it's necessary to to define the dark muscle structure.   What's really concerning right now, is that the body feels really blurry, rather than defined...you know?  I think it might even be as simple and a quick color adjustment (of course, it'd kind of be counter productive to do so now).

The leg to our left is missing a calf muscle.

because the two lights are separated in the strangest of ways, it hurts definition more than it helps it by creating two distinct shapes - an awkwardly flat characters and his neon-green outline.  The outline is only that, too, it doesn't describe form at all.  There should be parts where it is very thick and faint (planes towards the viewer) and very thin but bright (planes facing towards the right).  I think you need to explore it as a light source and not as an outline, and also make the two lights non-exclusive of each others.

My biggest concern though is that this is born out of "they did it in the 90's" syndrome rather than actual decision-making.

Yeah i see what you are saying.  i didnt really think about how the light would hit him.. which i think i should do.

I wasnt really around in the 90's - i just like playing with secondary colored lightsources

thanks

Great piece!

But I think the anatomy on his right leg (left side of pic) is a bit strange. The calve muscle should be a bit higher I think, tried an edit. Kicked out the 17th color (hightlight) and reshaded some points to suggest more volume. Made a fault with the background color, too.

edit - yours

hmm i like what you did to the leg.. ill try and rework that..

i think losing the skin color took away a bit of the smoothness though (well it did on my monitor)

thanks
