Title: [WIP] Face
Post by: Generic on December 29, 2007, 05:08:22 am
I was browsing through the forum a while back and someone had posted a palette for people to use. I had used the palette in this picture, but I forgot who it belonged to. So if anyone knows where this came from, please tell me so I can give credit. And I'll gladly change it if it wasn't for me to use.

So about the face. You can ignore the eyebrows for now because they are just place holders. I'm guessing a lot of you will ask why the eyelids are so big, but that's just something I like to do. What I'm really looking for is help on the hair.

Looks like an old version of Arne's. ???

Looking great so far, but:
Eyebrows and hair have really harsh outlines between them and the skin.
The hair could use more texture and blending as right now it looks like a few flat planes.
Ears could use more realistic details, even if it's just the basic knobbly part and canal.
Chin looks kind of weird on the right side because it goes buttchin-indent-highlight-midtone-highlight-midtone, so it looks like he has some form of tumor or something there.

What sort of hairstyle are you going for? To me, it looks like an attempt at a comb over. When drawing, it's a good idea to simplify things, but in this case the extent you did with the hair is too much. Think of hair as it really is: strands of dead biological fiber. Think of how hair grows out of your head, how it might look combed in a certain direction, and how it clumps together in larger strands. Other than that, I'd have to echo Sherman's suggestions.
