Title: Game Mockup WIP

Trying to keep a minimum of colors and use them throughout the whole scene. Right now just the character. What do you think of my color choices? Any and all crits/edits are welcome. Does his pose look silly?

Thanks

Lose the sword, keep the gun. Sword's making him look tacky as hell. I like the Colors and simple design, but are you going to do more with rendering the character, or will the whole scene be in this flat style?

Looks as if you ARE going to keep it simple block shading, and whatnot. So in that case, I'd work on smoothing out those jaggies that are very noticeable on the red portions of his clothes. Also, the shoes need some work: They seem like he has fat ankles, and flat feet...like a duck. The legs do look kinda' wonky. Well, the back one, maybe. Probably push it a little more to the left to fit the pose a bit better. Looks bare bones at the moment, so I'll hold my tongue until further work is done.

Haven't had much time with the holidays around. But here's what I have so far.

personally, I liked it a lot better without the outlines. Without, it really reminded me of a 70's cartoon, which is a style you don't (ever?) often see in games.

i agree with infinite.  Also, I think the hair makes him loose a lot of 'character'

I think it'd look great with outlines, just not jet black. try using the darkest shade of the skin to outline the skin areas, coat to outline the coat ect.

erm like this..

I was going to say that the pants look like jaggies attack but it seems you've already started to AA. Don't be afraid to invade the outline with that really dark pants color if not you can lighten that dark pants color so it looks less jaggy. I don't mind the outline at all. I kind of like them, but I agree with Terley 100%. Also his front leg has a goof ankle. needs to be mooved... moved* (I've been hanging out at the kid's table too long.) back and down a few pixels.

Thanks for all the replies. I will take all of your suggestions and post back when I have gotten them done. I'm not very confident with my AA skills yet so I will try what you suggested JonathanOfDrain. I will also try dark shades of each color for the outlines, the only thing is I want to keep a max of 16 colors and still have the character visible from the background. (which I haven't started yet as you can tell) Again, thanks for all of the comments.

the outlines take it from sexy to amateurish.

New style. What do you think? Might up the color count for more shading on the jacket. Any suggestions color wise that I could add/change?

looks a bit too stiff compared to the first, but I like the approach. Go with ever feels right.

(http://www.brandonayers.com/pixelart/stranger04.gif) I think I prefer the original too. Added some more shading and hair. Adjusted the arm. Has it improved?

This is a c64 restricted piece. I wanted the original flat design back, and I also wanted to experiment with c64 style graphics.

I think you did a really good job considering, but I still really like the first one. It looks like a game I would like to play, while none of the other ones do it for me. That's not to say that I wouldn't play it if the description was good, but if you have the ability to hook people based on graphics alone, I'd say go for it.

Ok, back to the original look. Sorry for straining. It's just kind of hard to keep it simple. Started working on a level design, but I'm not sure what to put. I was picturing an old creepy Victorian house. I tweaked the legs and started in on some more AA. The grandfather clock is hideous I know.
