Pixelation

So yeah, I'm new to this site, and new to pixel art. xD
I read a few tutorials and I've been using GraphicsGale, and I've made a few scraps.
The first one is a WIP, but I seemed stumped. I can't get this flower to become more lifelike. Anyway, I'm open to all suggestions and criticism.

This one is kinda icky, I used St0ven's AA tutorial's moon and stars for this. Technically, it's finished, but I'm pretty sure theres definitely room for improvement, right? I just don't know what I should work on with this piece.
