well this is really good. the ppl sprites are hard to judge for wat they meen, since they are suposed to be specific ppl, but away from that they are all pretty cool and cleen.
the robot portrait looks a bit Metroids.
now what I really like, and looks KICKASS is the tiles you got for the platformer. man, thats just about as cool as I want my tiles to look!!!

those tiles remind me of ABUSE the 3d shooter.
-
Beautifrickinful tiles you got there. No crits on them. The only thing buggin me is the portrait of the orange dude. He's got no neck. Also, the aa here is nice and all, but it could just as easily go without. Aside from that everything is really nice.

Exactly what I was thinking. I would love to see a full mockup.

Abuse is most definately all 2d. You rotate the shooting direction with the mouse, which was genious, but hey, still 2d. And yes, a more full mockup for us please!
-
Yuppers, I'm gonna' have to insist on a full mockup as well. :)
The tiles and platformer characters look nice, love to see them animated.
-
thanx for the good words guys. :) And yeah I'd like to see a full mockup of that tileset myself, but I'm currently quite occupied with my university studies and I'm the only artist on the project. That means tiles, sprites and all that. Alot of work... :)

Hey and welcome to Pixelopolis! :D I love the sprites espeacialy the crash one lol, it makes me laugh. As said before them tiles, they are pretty darn cool! :D
Thanks,
Dan

this rocks me hard. I want to play this! Something about the colour choice and layout and everything... goodness! Good game art, hope you finish this.

in the mockup, the tiles they stand on are blended towards a dark grey as it gets to the top, this makes it look like it is going into the background and makes it look like a platform, in which case the characters look like they stand on the very edge rather than actually on something. As you have it, it is directly sideview, but that gradient makes it look like a surface seen from slightly above, understand? i'd pixel it a different way.
-
LOVE the city-scape, not often you see one that's so murky with fog. Looks really atmospheric.

Which tileset are you reffering to Alex?

These are very nice, it'd be great to see some animations. And for some reason, i am reminded of Super Metroid when I look at the running sprite.
But I like them.
-
Derek: Can't take credit for that one tho. It's my mates work. hehe
-
Haha! I just noticed it in that other thread and thought "wuh?!". :)
You'd best post some animations of those characters to restore my faith in you, eh? ;)
-
GOODNIGHTdestroyer: Ah yes. That it does. Might be cos i looked alot at the Super Metroid animations when i created it. The jump looks just about exactly the same. :P
In my defence I have to say that I'm a n00b when it comes to animating and that this one is my first "fully" animated sprite. Personally I think it's somewhat ok to copy(semi-copy in this case) stuff as long as you learn something in the process.
Derek: Haha. I'll post a link to the game itself in due time. ;) You'll have to wait for that I'm afraid. Hehe
-
Oh. Another thing. I have to thank you guys for such a warm welcome!
Today is tile working day so I will probably post some new stuff tonigh.
Cheers!

Fair enuff, I've plenty of game programming meself to be getting on with in the mean time. :)
So is it wandery-abouty (like Metroid) or more linear (like Metroid Fusion - BAH!)?

Derek: Well. I guess we want some sort of Super Metroid/Mega Man/Symphony of the Night crossover deal. Equipment screens, finding updates/skills and so on.
-
*gurgle* sounds like my ideal kinda' game - I'll be making one of that ilk myself once I get a few remakes out of the way. How far are you through it?
-
Oh, great. I'm glad I wasn't just talking out of my butt. I think it's okay to learn from others animations and sprites too, as long as you try to do it on your own later too.
-
Derek: Not that far yet. The engine is pretty much complete so its pretty much only content left. But doing just about all of it myself is a wee bit much. Especially since I have studies to take care of aswell.
GND: Yeah. Thats pretty much my opinion aswell. I've always been able to pixel characters in pretty much any pose I've ever wanted. But making them flow together properly has been a big nono so far. I don't know why. I guess I just can't find the proper key frames in order for it to look good.
-
We should team up. I'm pretty good at making the right keyframes, but I suck at drawing poses...
-
Gil: oh? I might just take you up on that offer. :)
