That's spiffy, but I wonder if it has any practical application in actual game or demo art?

it is rather unusual isn't it... it's something I just stubled upon one day when fiddling around... I used to have it tiled on my windows desktop but it started playing with my head so I removed it...

If you flip each character (either x or y) depending on which quater of the overall tile you're working on, you can inverse the bulging effect... and... if you're really clever you can merge the two, and then tile it so you have a screen that pushes in and out... but really it's not...

@PK: I've often thought about practicle applications of it... I can only assume in demo - or some freaky alice in wonderland type level background... ?!

Very cool. And, yeah, I could definitely see it in an AIW game or something pseudo-Escherish.  ;D

What about using it for a top view version of 'marble madness'?

WHOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MAAAAAAAAANNNNN

I wonder if it has anything to do with equivocal space?  My 2d design teacher always talks about you can achieve motion with shapes if you take advantage of equivocal space.  The concept, well based one what he says, is that you're eye can't tell if the black is on the white or if the white is on the black (or in this case, the light green on the dark green versus the dark green on the light green).

Very cool though.  :y:

i think it's more to do with that he's created "pressure" by thinning out the "walls" of each shape, allowing them to shift visually outwards from those affected corners.

it's very interesting, and who needs *practical* applications???

I'm not sure if I'm getting the same effect that you guys are getting... What exactly is the effect?  Is it because I have an older monitor with a lens shaped screen?  Do I need a flat screen monitor to view it correctly?  Perhaps my eyes are going loopy.

could be quite the wonder for breaking the grid if you figured out a way of fitting it into your art direction!

this is gold bacca, your sharing it rules so much I cant even define it!
