Title: The Official Pixelopolis Off-Topic Thread
Post by: Peppermint Pig on November 15, 2005, 11:27:22 pm
You're welcome to talk about anything, including how well or how poorly the officers are conducting themselves; this is the off-topic thread. Keep it clean!

     • Campaign's are starting to heat up. Good luck to the candidates!

     • Animation is an important asset. How are your animation skills?

     • Have you said hello to a new member lately? Welcome everyone :)

OT Action!

As a few of you found out Audipolific is not a real disease or condition.  Sorry to anyone I have insulted truly having receptive amusia.  Yet it was all just a well planned elaborate hoax I planned with others to post all around the web to see if we could create some sort of disease or condition.  We decided to go with the most random disease we could find and change it so it wasn’t the selected disease and it could be considered a new disease.  I was the second one so far who has actually put this plan into action.  We intended on people knowing what receptive amusia was so we planned accordingly.  He hehe he… wow me and my friends need to have more lan parties and stop doing these ridiculous things.  Anyway we never planned on someone having connections to people studying at the conservatory of music.  Today at lunch we decided to pull the plug on this yet, expect more from us on the web or in the paper.  I was just the one of the planned tests to see how people would react before we started another giant spam campaign; being caught in our second test by Dog was a rather large surprise.
So far the Schewlers (my group of losers and I) have only accomplished 4 things so far:
1 Allowing those of the male sex to wear skirts on Halloween in Judd Elementary
2 Encouraging people to celebrate their holidays however they want
3 Sponsoring the shorts till it snows campaign
4 Officially getting all school computers in Linwood Middle School to allow the words grizzly and beastly to appear as synonyms in spell check both having the possible definition of amazing or great
Its not that we want fame or fortune we just get really bored.  Our next plan involves a bunch of those create your own hot air balloon kits and Ronald McDonald, other than that I am obligated not to say anything else about the subject, and no we are not planning on air-lifting a Ronald McDonald statue, yet that was what we based our new idea on.

Mercury Rising, I want to recruit you as an associate.

You have proved to me to be better than the lay people.   I want to create a class of elites to rule over what I call the "stupids."

Accept my offer.

EDIT
By the way, I have found it's never a good idea to appologise about anything.  Why should you care about anyone else thinks?  You didn't do anything wrong.  You're better than most of the people I see, so you shouldn't have to appologise.  It's a sign of weakness.

I’ll accept your offer. And apologizing wasn’t my decision it was the idea of the group, the second half past the sentence with lan parties I added, but what if a person here really had receptive amusia or knew someone who did when I just paraded around with the disease on my head.  According to what you said I shouldn’t care what you think.  Disease awareness is a good thing but not like this, the Schewlers do not want a bad reputation.

if there was ever an ego in need of a good thrashing... :D

And since the debate thread is off limits for the time being, I'd like to ask here what will be the point of it, exactly? These elections hardly bear resemblance to the real thing in terms of how diverse the opponents opinions can be on which path would lead to greater prosperity. At this point I'm guessing the debate will mostly focus on who would be more awesome for the job, though I'm not sure if I can imagine this being all that interesting. Then again, maybe something interesting will happen. I guess I'll wait and see.

I thought the debate would be between all the canidates.  If I knew it was only going to be between me and gil, I would have reccomended doing it on IRC or something.   :P  Anyways, I sent a PM to Peppermint about it already.  It seems like a lot of work to trounce one person.   :P

But still, I never back down from a challenge.   :D

I call this poem, "Gay Alligator" for you, Flabber.

- Gay Alligator -

Alligator on a pirate ship
What an image, a mighty trip
On the seas, off to adventure
To find rainbow flags, bags, no fear!

Man without a face
Monster without taste
The alligator is of green and pink
Standing tall, is he the missing link?

So there he goes, dancing at night
The music is disco, but no one in sight
But sure enough, the little gay alligator dances alone
In the moonlight, he finds the pride to hold his own.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but all gay people don't listen to disco. :(

Sorry to dissapoint you, but all gay people don't listen to disco. :(

No, but this gay alligator is dancing disco on a pirate ship, and that's what the poem is about.  ;D  -> (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/flaber/gtrwp24.png)

And wait, are you seriously kicking me off the board?  That's not very cool.  Especially coming from Dogmeat; I consider him a friend and someone I trust.

Well, I'm not one to stir up drama, so if a lot of people are trying to kick me out, I'll just leave.  Besdies, I'm really popular, so no big loss.

So oh well, sorry I couldn't do more for the board, especially as one of the new daijins.  However, I really enjoyed posting here.

I'm going to say my goodbyes first though.   :)

Indigo - I said it before, I really think you're an awesome artist, and someone with a lot going for you.  I hope we'll run into each other again on another board.

Peppermint Pig - I always enjoyed not only your art, but your attitude.  Keep up the good work.

Dogmeat - You're one of the most candid people on this board, and someone I totally trust.  You have a good attitude and a good brain!  I'll miss the back and forths we had.

Gil - I'll see you on the other board.  Keep posting there!  I want to see your volleyball game completed.   :P

Crab - I STILL like the cut of your jib.   ;D  You come across as someone who is always smiling.  I really like that about some people, and it's the reason that I was originally attracted to my boyfriend.  So I want you to keep up your good attitude, and your good art.   :D

And everyone else - I havn't seen a single person on this board I didn't like.  Everyone has such a good attitude and such good drive.  I'll miss looking at all the art everyone is posting.  This is one of the only boards I have seen where everyone is so outgoing to help.  In fact, that's why I was running for daijin.  I was so moved by all of your willingness to help each other, I wanted to help too, even though my art skills arn't as developed.   :P  I hope to see some of you guys around in the future, on other boards or what-not.  If you ever see a NyanNyanKoneko around, don't be afraid to give me a message.

Sincerly Yours,
NyanNyanKoneko (Kaitlyn)

EDIT: Read below, I'll start posting again in a few months.   ;D

Does this mean you will not be participating in the debate??

It wasn't up to me to go around asking anybody if they wanted to participate in a debate.  Nyan, you and Gil came up with some specific guidelines about taking questions, but not really 'debating' one another on points. As it is, there are only five days left, and coordinating something won't be easy.

A free-for-all debate could have been an attempt to target someone or cause an incident.

Indigo makes a good point.  If I leave forever, so many people will miss me that it could create MORE drama, which is what I want to avoid.  Avoiding drama is why I am leaving in the first place.  :D

Originally, I got caught up in the challenge, but it's probably a better idea to compromise and say I'll leave for a few months, then after all the drama has died down, I'll return.  That way I don't get forcefully banned, nor will I be gone forever.  Now the people who want me outta here get me outta here, and the people who want me to stay will know it's not perminent.   Everyone is happy.   ;D

Just remember, no one put a gun up to my head and said I HAD to go.  I made a choice, so I don't want the people who think I'm too cool for words starting drama with the people who thought I was just too cool to stay.   ;D  Also, I feel really good about this decision.  It allows time for drama to cool down, while maintaining good terms with everyone.   :)

Besides, don't miss me too much, I'll still post on the Game Developer's Refuge.  Plus my AIM is in my profile, and my yahoo account is in my campaign thread.  I'll be checking my PM box for the next few days too.  But this is my last post on this board for quite a while.   :P

Good luck to the rest of the canidates, I hope you all do well.   ;D

Running for the position of daijin is a little difficult when you've been kicked off the board.   :P

I'm sorry for the abrupt changes, I totally didn't see this coming.  I'm such a likable person.  :D

But anyways, if you open the debate thread to everyone, that would work pretty well too.  Just make a rule that you can't mention or imply any other canidates or their previous statements.  That makes sure no one will start using the debate to start attacking other opponents' possitions.   ;D

That would be good for the voters too, so they can see how every canidate responds to a question.  It makes their positions easy to compare.   :)

Or you can erase the thread or change the thread into something else.   :D  That always works!

If anyone asks, let them know I gave it my best, but there was a sizable group of people who asked me not to post here anymore, so I decided leave without being forcefuly banned.  Also if you have any more questions or need some info or something, just let me know by PM.  Even though I won't post on the board, I'll check my PM box for the next few days. ;D

Nyan, nobody is forcing you to leave the forum, let alone being banned. And the drama that you keep mentioning appears to be centered around your actions, so please stop with the dramatic behavior.

Quote
I'm sorry that the debate will have to be indefinately postponed.
I am irritated that you are wasting other people's time like this. If you're not going to take the campaign seriously, then you probably should drop out of the running. However that's up to everyone else to decide, at election time.

Just to throw this stat out there Nyan 90% of all poets have mental disorders...
Don't laugh because 68% of musicians do too. Also all fiction writers, theatrical actors and visual artists have a mental disorder rate of between 73 and 77%.

Just wondering:

you are on pixelopolis, and you are projecting in a very big way.

of course the challenge to leave wasn't completely serious. But nyan seems to not be a completely serious person, and in the spirit of incomplete seriousness, decided to pull a dramatic exit. Of course, given obligations towards the electorial process, that does create problems as pep underlines. If you want to know what's up, why don't you read nyan's campaign thread?

And relax.

Maybe it's because I just ate a box of marshmellow cookies. Maybe it's because I've drank eight cokes today. Maybe the effects of the full moon haven't worn off yet, but Alex, your somewhat confusing and valley girl-esque comment of NyanNyan's even more valley girl-esque comment made me laugh hysterically.

Or maybe I am just laughing at NyanNyan being so stupidly dramatic.

All those figures where real and come from the BR Institute.  The reason that it’s true is because crazy people tend to choose creative jobs, while the most consistently off-kilter are poets.  Only 28% of physicists and biologists have mental disorders, just to show you guys the other end of the spectrum.

The thing about nyan's ego, I don't know and wouldn't presume about it being honest or not, but it sounded like how a person who's read one too many self-help books would come off as: if you underline how awesome and amazing you are, people will start to believe it. If you do it even more, you yourself will start to believe it. I find it really annoying when people do this. On the other hand there's a lot of faux-humble people too, but somehow it's easier to stomach.

But hey, at least nyan's not a liar after all! Said "I'l leave", left! Extra points.

Unless you're divisively faux-humble and you're a celebrity, talk radio dj, or in politics. That is REALLY annoying when they try to be 'all that' by trying to make themselves out to be nobodies in order to prove some assertive or arrogant point to begin with.

Hey all...

Err, my parents are mad, so I may not be on the computer for a while. I'm not really sure.

Haha, North Dakota.

So umm, yeah, I'll be gone for a little bit, but I'll leave you with a story.

I was walking home the other day, listening to my mp3 player, happy as a clam. I get home, and have to go to the bathroom, so I walk into my house and drop my backpack. I go into the bathroom, lift the toilet seat lid, and bloop, in falls my mp3 player. Needless to say, it doesn't work anymore. I feel like a bonehead, but lucky me, the warranty covers it.

And with that, I'm gone for a while.

I hope you can work out all these issues with the voting thing. If we don't keep arguing about it, the wrong person might win and the board will crumble...

Or at least that's what it seems like.

Honestly, as far as I can tell, Nyan is joking (not to mention she's one of the least abrasive people (and english majors) I've ever met)

So now, I'm off to heat up some chicken fingers and watch whatever's on TBS, which at the moment, seems to be that third Matrix movie. Looks alright.

Peace.

Hey, that gives me an Idea: A pixel-based forum-based RPG. Everyone could hop in and role-play a bit, or a chosen few (not really) could just go on an adventure together and...uh...be all evil and amass power and become a dictator...?

Don't ask me how pixelling would tie in.

GS I’m going out on a limb here but I'm guessing you’re a poet.

Well if we do do that Xion I get Canada.  Why?  Because Canada is awesome, they eat more Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and any other country in the world.
Also I just learned China has more English speaking people than America.  Proving two things A) China has a lot of people B) we need to better protect our borders.

Also, I was thinking: Wouldn't the average population of the universe be zero? Its so huge with so much nothingness, inhabited places would make up and infintly small portion of it.

I'd advise against it. There are over 7.5 milllion Frenchmen up here. http://psychcentral.com/psypsych/Quebec
Just keep your mouth shut, and thank the God that your founding fathers never attempted to include the French in anything.

Besides, have you ever seen a beaver? The things are fuckin' ferocious, and they never stop chewing, 'cause if they do their top buck teeth will grow through their bottom lip, killing 'em. I have no way of verifying this, but I'm pretty sure beavers are the leading cause of death for Canadians. I'm wildly guessing at over 20,000 people a year!

They essentially function as Canada's standing army.

Duh...you think I haven't facotred in beavers? My plan is to kill them and make them mindless zombie beavers to destroy the resistant Canadians. A little bit of beaver-esticide goes along way towards zombification.

its a good thing though, look at Dhali...Nitsche...Van Gogh...madmen are wonderfull...remember 12 monkeys? madman is the conveniant tag for those individuals that society cant profit from =O

and god.....Nyan's reaction was so insane I thought there was something else more insane going on behind this thread..IDK, sudden spurts like that remind me of the FLC Diced, Poocrew stuff that always seemed to involve more than what you could see in the forums. I'm glad it wa just Nyan being loopy......sort of O.o his suggestion about presenting programmer art games for us to customize sounded awesome.

I have made a special attempt to avoid posting at these boards, mostly because my presence does not have a positive impact on the board (My function was, and will always be, to rebel at these boards and this board does not need a rebel. Things are fine. Drama, Revolution, Self-Annihilation or Rebuilding does not lead to a better pixilation. Pixelation is like an organ - let it evolve) and I really feel awful for the way I acted towards most of the Pixelation staff and even former Pixel buddies (actually just being here reminds me of what inane/inhuman atrocities I committed towards other human beings -  and it sucks).
Though I do see something disturbing about your post, Camus, and thus I feel obligated to leach out - I may be able to help. What strikes me about your post is the sheer irony of what you state, and it does not appear like you see it. You just made a rant about lack of depth/intellectualism/profoundness (you even indirectly referred to creating a idiosyncratic trait to the board) when it comes to feedback on this board, and here there was no “build up” to your climax. You made a "sudden spurt"! And there are might even be more parallels to be made between your new rant and the rants of the past. You imply that there is a hidden agenda behind my rants (I cannot speak for any of the poocrew members) and you are absolutely right. I am not sure what my motive for doing these things was, but I think it had something to do with my inferiorities and lack of control in my own life - Do remember that I have been addicted to drugs.
Now you can ask yourself. Was there a hidden agenda to your rant? Do you have some sort of complex or void that you must fill? Figure this out or you will not stop feeling the urge to rant. You are a bright guy Camus, but I advice you to consider things. Look at where my rage got me? I cannot even post here without feeling a slight nausea.

And Nietzsche is a great author. I would not consider him mad though, especially if we compare him to a lot of other authors that dealt with existentialism like Camus… Albert Camus ;)

To the Pixelation staff, do not view this as a return (there is no reason to fear that I will start causing problems or resurrecting my evil army of ghouls and goblins). I just feel like I have a sufficient amount of experience to place this episode with Camus in a juxtapose comparing all rants (not only committed by me) and Camus’s new one. I fear that Camus has a hidden agenda, and the fact that he points fingers at previous ranters does expose him in the manner that he appears to be some kind of denial of his own rant. If I am wrong here then I am sorry for wasting your time and you are more than welcome to delete this thread. I am just sharing experience.

As always. Best of luck Pixelation! Draw, share and enjoy!

Holy crap. I was able to get an XBox 360.

So, my friend and I pull into the Best Buy parking lot at around 5:20pm. (They, supposedly, had 194 consoles on hand.)  We have to walk to the back of the line which is, coincidently, at the back of the building. At around 9:00pm or so, some Best Buy staff start passing out bracelets to those in line. The wearer of a bracelet would be guaranteed a unit. I didn't recieve one. A barrier is created to seperate the bracelet-wearers from the losers. I'm in the loser line... and about 30 people deep.

At midnight, people begin to filter into the store --- very slowly. They would grantfive people entrance, and would wait until every one of them had finished their transaction and had left the store before letting a new wave of cusomters in. At 2:00am, I'm about 6 feet away from the door, and my buddy is in front of me. At this point, quantities are VERY limited and the crowd is on edge and in a pre-riot state. The open the door to let in 6 people, and I make sure to shove him forward and block the people behind me. He gets in and I don't. Hey, at least ONE of us got in, right?

I'm at the front of the door and the manager of the store walks up and says, "Two more." The guy beside me had been there long before me, so I let him go in and, of course, take that second slot. I believe that only six more people were let in before every unit was taken. After waiting for 9 hours, I FINALLY got my console...

I can't wait to put it on eBay!.

 ;)

What I also find amusing is, I was watching this show last night on MTV where they followed these pro gamers around while they did tournaments and stuff, they were part of the NGL or whatever, and the logo for them is like the baseball logo, xept with a ps controller. Now the amusing part is, none of the tournaments featured a game played on a PS2, it was mostly XBOX, PC or gamecube....

Hah, I do believe you did, Monsoon.

I'm just bitter towards Xbox because I'm bitter towards Microsoft because they are a monopoly.  And need them as we do, I still don't like them.  They buy up any competition that they have, so that they can be the only ones in the playing field.  They bought up many game companies and with them started churning out shit games.  PS3 will have HD, so I don't see your point there.  But, in general, I just hate Xbox because I don't see the big deal.  Internet on it?  So what, I have my computer for that.  Hard drive for storing music and videos or whatever the hell? Computer, yet again.  An Xbox is just a computer with a different operating system and with less ability to do anything.  At least the other consoles aren't trying to fake anything, they are dedicated to games, which is what they are created for.  I just want the revolution because I want to see how they utilize the new controller.  And the game designers had better do good with it, or God help me, I'll give them dirty looks.  Peter Molyneux was excited about this controller and what he could do with it, and that itself excites me.  Plus, the Rev is far cheaper, so even if it isn't that great, it'll still be some fun for not much money.

In conclusion, Xbox sucks.  No hard feelings.  You can send me money if you want.

P.S. Professional gaming is a joke  ;)

I just think it's stupid there are so many consoles to begin with, heres how I see it:

Game company A releases a title for xbox, ps2, PC, ps1, gba, nds, and psp...
Game company B makes awesome games but only releases for PS2 or XBOX
Really innovative gameplay games come out for GC but not for the others.

XBOX has far superior firepower than PS2 or GC

Granted I don't have an XBOX anymore.

ugh i forgot what point I was trying to make cause my GF came home and we've been talking about stuff for like 45 min.

About the 360: what Skipper said. It can do most of the shit that I can already do without it. I'm being charged for shit I don't want. And their top priority seems to be graphics lately ( besides the other features stated ), which i don't give two shits about.

AND when you see a console on MTV about every fucking month before it releases ... that should tell you something.

The Playstation always has most of the best games to ever be released: Katamari Damacy, Shadow of the collosus, ICO, God of War, Intelligent Cube, Einhander, Wipeout series, and much more. They have ALWAYS had most of the best games, and thats why i'm torn between it and the Revolution

The revolution is an entirely different experience. I don't know about you, but I want to try something new.

And I can't believe you said Killzone. I should slam you.

I agree that the PS is the best console out there, but theres something about how the XBOX renders graphics that really gives me a nice warm chubby. Granted, I have and love my PS2 and my PSP and of course my GC, I noticed the XBOX is more geared for sports fans and people who like crappy FPS like halo. Now before anyone goes flaming me because I said Halo is crappy, you go spending your life playing FPS's since they were invented, and tell me halo is worth 2 squirts of piss. Sure it looks pretty, but FPS should be played on a PC, nuff said.

Halo made the Xbox what it was today.  I agree that Xbox is geared towards sports fans but there are amazing games on the Xbox that the PS2 and gamecube dump their pants about.  I have no problem with you hating Halo, none at all, it is a great game that a lot of people hate because its over hyped.  Well when a game is that good it deserves all that hype.  I'm also not saying there aren’t good games for PS2 or GC because there is.  Xbox has amazing games like Indigo Prophecy and PGR.  I said Killzone because Killzone 2 was one of PS3’s biggest movie they had to show other than Snake and another dang FF game.
Oh and FYI Halo is on PC too.
Title: Re: The Official Pixelopolis Off-Topic Thread

PS3: graphical beast, best titles, will deliver great games again, because PSone, PS2 and PSP proved that it can deliver the games time and time again

Revolution: Nintendo has proven time and time again to be ahead of the game. While receiving less attention they are the ones who pioneer new games

Xbox: Looks at other consoles, tries to add a little extra and markets that through the roof. Also, geared towards younger gamers (14-15), which are easier to addict to a game

Xbox is shit, and the real battle should be between the extremely innovative Revolution or the graphical console PS3. Everyone who wants to play last year's sport games with better graphics, go play xbox....

I can't say I agree. Playstation is on par with the SNES for me. It's just the whole pioneer part that gives it its flair, but in terms of gameplay, alot of things were still rough in alot of games imo...

best pixel art on any system goes to amiga machines, of course, but snes is a close second, heavy on the tile and game art. I have a soft spot for the genesis, where the resticted palette created space for much innovation in pixel art design, and some games are absolute beauty due to that

PSX... I don't know... it had some pretty good games... everything seemed to break on it though... Maybe it was just my large manhands :P
