Title: Banana Walk
Post by: Pan on September 17, 2007, 01:38:47 am
This is my first walk cycle, third animation.

The first thing that sticks out is the eyes....they don't seem to sync at all with the legs.  I think, also, you could make the top of the banana wag back and forth--subtle details are key in animation.

As for the sprite itself....I'd say it is rather plain, but I spose you can do shading and such after you get the animation down  :) :y:.   Good luck man!

Do you have to keep the frames low? Otherwise I think it could be nice with some tween frames, 'cause it's a bit stiff.
I like the concept though :)

First of all, as Jiisuki mentioned, you should try for six frames.

The sprite doesn't come off clearly as a banana.  It could easily be a floppy piece of rigatoni.  Nor, and this is more personal, do I think a banana would stand at that angle if it had legs.

With that in mind, here are two attempts on my part:

I kept the same number of colours as yours, and they're only slightly larger than yours.

I didn't add arms because I was having trouble wrapping my mind around the motion.  Because of the lack of flexibility in a banana the arms would have to move at the same time as the respective legs, as in a cross country skiing motion, as opposed to the more natural feeling arms moving opposite the legs.

Hope this helps.

Wow, thank you so much for the help, I used your edit a lot, I hope that's not a problem.

I know, it could use a little more work, but I really like it how it is now.

Thanks again.

The eyes are still bothersome...his right eye should go in more with his right step....because at the moment it's like he's looking to his right.

Rydin's right, the eyes move too much.  The stem on the top of the head kinda jerks around too much as well.

It's certainly far better than the first attempt, and the feet are quite smooth.  Good work.

Fixed the eye, and kind of the stem.

Theres a little bit of darker shading under the eyes that pops up out of no were for about 1 frame... i just think it looks a little strange. (just me probably though)
