I see a promising future with these, but at the moment, it's very bland.  I know that might be what you're going for--a clean, Apple-Computer-Vokswagon-ad-Wii simplicity, it's just way too boring right now though. The characters not so much, though I'm sure others will disagree, but the tiles definitely need to be brought up a notch.  I think the first step you should attempt, is to add some depth and interest to those tiles, which you could go about  multiple ways:
-use heavier contrast and/or hue-shifting (http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=2836.0)
-break up the monotony (add some cracks or inconsistancies)
-as far as the background goes, throw in a tree-line or skyline or even just clouds

Good luck with this  :) :y: and keep pixelling!

Haha now more people are making platformers :D. Adding a small head of the main character at the bottom of the lives can spice it up.

OK, first of all, you need more contrast. Lighter shades, darker shades, colors varying more in hue. The high contrast dithering, however, looks a bit distracting. Replacing it with a banding effect will make it look more tranquil.

The characters' feet are very small. I think you should give them bigger feet or change their shape so they'll seem a bit more sturdy. At the moment, they look as if a gust of wind could topple them. They'd also be able to take longer steps, so you could slow down the walk animation a bit.

Brighten the outlines a bit around the brightest parts.

The characters can share the same highlight color without looking very different.

I enlarged what I assumed are gems. You have a lot more space in those 16 x 16 pixel tiles, so if you use more of it, you can add more details to make them easier to read.

Here's an edit where I've tried to change some of the things I mentioned. It uses the same amount of colors as yours.

Hope that'll give you some ideas. :)

But now it's just a -generic- platformer . Atleast you had something unique with the purple/pink.

really sorry for tripple post.

Big uppdate ;D

I like to be able to actually see progress made in these threads and see how people are implementing other's critiques. When you just update the first post and remove previous iterations, it takes away my ability to learn from it.

I don't know if other people are of the same mind, but I certainly wish you would stop doing it like that.
I also think the expectation of people in this forum is that the most recent version will be in your last post, so they may go down to the bottom and not see it, and as a result not give you critique, or if they do, without seeing the other iterations it is hard to see what you have attempted to fix and hard to get a good critique of the entire process.

No offense is intended, I am here to learn and I am sure you like to get good critiques and I think doing it the way you are prevents both of us from accomplishing our objectives.
