Post by: telecommtubbie on September 10, 2007, 02:33:04 pm
hi, i'm a newb and this is my fish, i want to add scales to it but it always looks funny.

(for any fish buffs out there, it's a red eyed tetra)

i've added some scales and some bubbles( 'cos thats what fish always have) to him and this is what he looks like:

i'm not sure about it.
i should have introduced myself before but i didn't.
hi, i'm 14 and interested in pixel art and animation.
i live live in England and that's it.

Does noone like my fish?
anyway here's another type of scales, not a realistic as the other ones but never mind.

Hard to comment... humm... try and make the curves smoother, it's "edgy" at the moment.
Color it and try and bring out the shape of the fish. It'll make a better subject for critique.

there's an edit button......and don't ask for replies only a few short hours later, many "hot" threads go entire days without response.

the linework is a bit sloppy and im not convinced by the texture, but it is certainly a fish so you get points in that regard.  I would study scales, study fish, and try to replace that color job with a more accurate or more stylized thing (scales are great for experimenting with style dithers)
