Title: New to pixel art, looking for advice
Post by: Gareque on July 07, 2020, 10:40:35 am
So, I'm just starting out when it comes to pixel art (and I'm totally new here, so hey!), so I'm starting with re-designing some of the classic NES sprites and would just like some feedback on how I'm doing, or if there are ways to improve things a bit more.

Thanks in advance!

I think you should try using colors that are more muted. Right now it looks (IMHO) too bright in some places and also pretty flat. The values aren't helping in making it appear more 3D and the over saturation in places (esp. the bright yellow, bright green and pure white) are making it quite noisy for my eyes.

The sillouette is good, though. Keep it up!

Quick-ish edit:

I basically selected a light source and rendered it from there.

Couldn't tell exactly what was happening with the arms/hands, so I pretty much left them as they were.
Also reduced the colors from 42 to 28.

Oops, I just now realized that he's walking and his left foot is raised. Oh well.
