Title: [wip] isometric study

Okay. I want to do an iso mockup, because I'm feeling kinda masochistic, but I figured I should do some tests first to see how to tile this stuff together.

There's nothing creative going on at this stage. I want to be able to build landscapes and buildings and caves and stuff out of variations on these tiles. I just want to know if there's anything wrong with how I'm going at this. I haven't had much experience with isometric work, and if there's anything glaringly wrong about how I'm approaching this thing, it'd be nice to know about it at this stage.

remember that if your light is above the objects as most suns are, it will cast more light on the tops than anywhere else..

I'd suggest changing your block shape very slightly to ensure your blocks will tile seamlessly - currently you can see a single pixel of the wrong face along the edge of your blocks when you put them next to one another.
Note that with the shapes I'm using here, there are no visible seams - each pixel is unambiguously on exactly 1 of the 3 visible sides of the block.

is WIP, of course. Should read as 'this dragon has nearly got more elephants than he can carry'. Working on the wings. Does it need more colours? which bits need more detail?

now, let's think of what we know of spheres:

and aply that to your lighting test :

If the light source you've chosen is really aimed at the w slope tile, then it wouldn't make sense for the sw slope tile to be darker than the top one would it?

Updated to the style Ichigo Jam recommended. I think I'm about ready to start working on the mockup for reals, now.
