for no reason at all except for fun and practice i decided to make a katana....
all i have is the base so far... i think it needs to be curved a little more
there is no ref pic that i used... just my memory of what katanas look like :)

It does need to be curved more, yes. Also, the handle should be longer, and remember that all of that but the Tsuba (finger guard) is one piece of metal.

i tried to curve it some more but i think it looks worse now :(

Aye, it does... But it is more accurate. It may simply be because you haven't had much practise with curves in pixels yet. If so, just practise, practise, practise! ;D

It does look worse, partly because it bends outward (away from the wielder) as well. It shouldn't do that. It's also a bit too thick. It actually wouldn't be a bad idea to dig up a reference and draw after that. Here's one I would go after, personally.

My advice would be to scale it down. It's tough to tackle such a large project. Especially since you're having trouble with the lines.

it looks allot better now... i think
pretty much redid the whole thing

added the blade and started to work on the handle

Added some AA to the blade
is it just me or did it make the blade look wavy...
i don't use AA much so im not too good at it

edit button dude. I'd work on the shape a bit more before you get into pixelwork; see the references? and see what was said before - a katana is a single piece of metal except for the guard - including the handle.

it has a continuous curve all the way along, the handle included. the grip is riveted to this hind part and does not change at all the curve of the weapon - it continues it. It also barely (if at all) alters the width of the weapon (except for where the binding pulls it out)

this is my reference...

also what so you mean by edit button?

rather than post 3 times in a row, you can simply hit the button that says "edit" in order to change your post to include small updates.
why would you base your drawing off of an animation? find a real photograph, not a computer generated object.
