This is my first sprite, and I wanted to know what some more experienced pixel artists thought. Please, lay on the critique; I want to improve. I'm not sure if I want the sprite to remain b&w, but I'm digging the style so I think it will.

Definitely needs more frames. The leg movement is much to choppy.

I tried making an intermediate between them, but it failed miserably.

On both the mid-air frames, his legs are like, the same. So you can't really tell which one is forward and which is back. I suggest making the farther leg darker.
The near arm looks very tiny compared to the far arm - or what's visible of it, at least.
Try twisting the body as he runs. Run around the room a bit and see what I mean. It's sort of unnatural for ones torso to always face forward in a jog.
Maybe add some motion to the head as well.
Not too bad for your first sprite. The stills are cool, but it's the animation that needs work.

In the future it would be a good idea to state your references,

There is a reason this walkcycle works well enough while yours does not
Jerkiness
Because of the small size, less frames are required to create non jerky movement. Try using 6 or 8.
Leg size
Even at this small size, pixel has shortened the legs on the second jumping pose to keep with perspective
Arm consistency
One of your arms has a hand that is 2x2 pixels big
For a character sprite this size, quote is probably not your best reference, using him will not nescisarily create a sprite reminiscent of cave story, as few players ever look into the frames of animation as i have such.
I suggest you decide wether you are aiming for a walk cycle or a run cycle
Choose good keyframes and tween frames
and ensure you have the movement required for a character this size
Here's a quick running reference i dug up
Runcycle, (nudity) (http://www.univie.ac.at/cga/art/Muybridge.jpg)
There's a couple resources in the Tools, Resources and Linkage thread (http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=3467.0) for walk cycles

Redone body. I really like the legs on this; not so sure about the arm. Hopefully I'll have an animation up tomorrow.
edited: now in gif format, changed the arms

Nice update...
But...
Why is it .jpg?
