Alright well I haven't done much pixeling in I don't know... 4 months.
So I decided to work on a chess set for a project of mine.
How's it looking?

Standard colors.

OMG, your are back ! :]
Hum, i really like the chess set, but i think they need more contrast :] for they look like a glass chess set :)
-
welcome back!
I think they look great when zoomed in (3x-4x), while looking a bit to "dirty" in their shading on smaller zooms. So if they are made as very small sprites I would simplify the shading a bit, but otherwise you did a great job especially on the horse :)

I agree with what the previous two said. I like the blue and gold more than the black and white. Wouldn't it be hard to play chess at this perspective? Side view I mean, I always imagine chess as a top down thing. If not please explain how this is going to work out because I'm really interested.

Most chess games use side-view pieces while the board is top-view.
Anyway, these look really nice. :y:

Here is live preview of the game.
I still have to make a better chess board.

Also, I've updated some problems I saw with the castle.

i like these, they're all consistent, interesting designs.
just a few nitpicks
should the light hitting the center prong on the rooks end before hitting the crown shape?
king's and queen's crowns seem flat, maybe you should darken up the right side
have you considered a final specular color to enhance volume?
things i'd like to know
are you coding this or using a prebuilt engine, or have you got some assitance
how detailed are the board tiles going to be
do you have the option to change the names of the sides? 'white' and 'black' don't seem to fit with the neato bronze and blue

I'm working on a very buggy un-finished javascript engine.
Right now it's all working fine except that when you take your opponents king it keeps on playing and doesn't declare a winner.
I'm not sure about the board yet, and no I wont change the names for which side since you'll be able to choose what color of pieces you want in your game.
Blue and Gold, Black and White and so on.. Just for some customization in the game. :P

You could always make a nice marbled cheese board..just for show. I really like this piece, and after looking for 5 minutes.. my inexperienced eyes couldn't find a fault...nice job

I know it's been said, but I really do think this would look a lot better with some pieces that are in perspective.
-
I have a size restriction with each piece and I tried making the pawns smaller but it just ends up looking weird.
-
If you give them perspective, it should make them smaller vertically, as you're not going to be seeing the whole side of the piece.

I really don’t mind the ionised look. I think that there isn't much point in a change in perspective personally (also for readability during play side view is a lot better). One thing I do notice is that the knight looks different from the rest due to it being more complex, many of the highlights seem lost and so it doesn't seem as bright as the other pieces. The same follows for the queen and king to a lesser degree. Another thing regarding colours, the gold pieces have a nice hue shift, whilst the blue seem very monochromatic. Work some more variation in hue into the blues I say. Also with the black and white, just because they are the traditional colours doesn’t mean they will have no variation in hue. They all seem just a tad too gritty for my taste, but that could be put down to a style choice i suppose.
P.S. welcome bak Souly!
