Title: Dreaming portal
Post by: Xenon02 on February 26, 2020, 08:53:57 pm
Hi everybody !

I was trying to focuse more on details (adding more colors), I was also thinking about adding stone wall like those in old castles (but I still suck at tiling)

What do you think about it ? Oh an yes those are tentacles.

It's pretty, but I'm having a difficult time working out what's going on. Which bits are the tentacles?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. Is it the black cracks in the figure, or the grey elements reaching towards the portal, or the dark blue edges of the portal?

Can you describe what is happening in this scene?

It is more like that.
On the wall a character sees a portal that is getting even bigger.
The character that is looking at this portal isn't aware that it is taking him apart (those grey fragments reaching the teleport)

The dark blue fragments that are on the side (should remind of a tentacle or a cracked rift).
I tried to make a medieval wall, but it looked ugly at first so I've decided to leave it.

I think that a few of the parts of the figure that are breaking away should still be attached to the figure. At the moment it's ambiguous which direction they're moving, but if some are attached to the figure (and probably thicker where they're attached) then it might clear it up visually.

Also the figure colour is too close to some of the portal blues. This means detail is getting lost.

It's hard to read that the streams are supposed to be tentacles. I did a quick edit here - I added additional definition to the tentacles to clarify where they begin and end, added some little suction cups on them, and increased the lighting / depth. Additionally, I added more contrast to the figure and added a couple extra colors to make it clear how the light reflects onto them.

Not sure what size you're working with, but this is best viewed at around 3-4x. If you intend to view this at 1x, then you'll want to change up the composition a bit.
