I pretty much did this to throw it in Ptoing's face. Clean up to follow shortly.

i think you may antialiase purple with white to givi it a little softness; the hair seems to be in a different layer...

By removing the majority of the swirls in the hair you really lost some of the feel of the piece.
I would AA the boundary of the hair with the face, and I think the old eyebrows were better.
I've never seen the double banded lighting you have on the cheeks on anyone before...
It looks like you have a highlight where there should be a shadow.

Don't worry about the AA, Faceless, he says he's going to clean it up.

I don't think the "double banded lighting" is bad, but just make it look more like jowls and less like a moustache.

I think i prefer the first one's non- neon -ness of the colors. The eyebrows could use some sort of shading highlighting, consistent with style. The top hair part looks a bit empty, could use some sort of detail.

ptoing's edit is good, but it kills the pink-face-concept of the original pixelart

Actually, the pink/purple neon face thing kinda hurts the eyes.

I like how you did the hair.
