It was about 3am last night and I was irritated with the low contrast of my avater, so I started fiddling with it...and then it turned into about 2 hours of animating and buggering around. Here's how it looks;

What do you reckon? The glowing of the eyes sort of bothers me, sort of doesn't. I think I've spent too long looking at it :-\

looking good, though I would speed up the animation a bit, it just seems very slow for me.

My imagehost is down atm. In the mean time I'll use something spewy. I sped up the animation:

I think the lightsource inside the eye sockets look separate from the skull itself, since it doesn't seem to interact with it. It makes an otherwise cool looking skull look cheap. I'd make the glowing eyes point bright pixels, and do some funky lighting to show the insides of the eye sockets, mixing the light orange of the light and the green of the shadows.
Also, the forehead rune looks imposed on the image, not painted on the skull nor engraved on it. Light interaction again *hint hint*
Palette and anatomy are nice.

Ah, good points. I'll have another play around with it. Thanks :)

I had a go at changing the eyes. They look much more like a lightsource now, I reckon. What do you think?

Agreed. Although you still haven't adressed the rune issue Turbo mentioned...not too big of an issue though.
