I'm stuck with his body, but I'm still going to try.  :mean:
I didn't make the bearded judge, by the way, for those who are unfamiliar to Phoenix Wright.

you have the reference and the pixel image side by side yet you cannot see how far the likeness is? The elements aren't on the same heights even.

I don't know, that's why I'm posting it here.

Are you going to whip out the "Go back and learn the fundamentals" card on me again? :(

it's not that, all you have to do is take the reference picture and use it if you're going to use it. what helm meant is that if you line up the mouth, nose, eyes, etc. they don't match the ref. can't you see it? overlay the ref with yours.

This might help. The red lines are aligned to the original image. Compare that to the head you made.

I know you are trying to mimic the style, but you should also try to more accurately copy the shapes and proportions in the original picture. And that's about all the critique I can give you at this point.

Well he said He didn't make the bearded judge, which sort of implies he didn't make the rest. (at least that's how I would understand it)
Anyways: it seems your head seems much more messier than your reference, so if you want to keep the style I would suggest trying to keep it simple and cleaning it up.

Right, I get it now, I'm working on likeness with that thingy Stitchy made. Which pretty much made me realize what you guys were talking about, and made me feel pretty dumb. :o  I didn't make the background, either, it's from Gyakutan Saiban 4 (I think it's spelled like that) But I was pretty sure it didn't look like I did anyway. I'm also working on making some of the details more simplified.
Edit: Gyakuten Saiban 4?

You should make your own body, or something, man. Please rethink sticking three things together like that. Using reference is one thing, only actually making 1/3 or less of the art in a piece is in bad taste. Or just lazy.

The source judge is not very good either, in terms of pixelling, and you're copying stuff that if you went more originally about it you might consider errors, like the absurd selout, or coloring the face using the grays from the beard. There's not much point to critique art that tries so much to be like other art, because a lot of my idea of how critique goes is based on evaluating the choices the artist makes, not how well he's emulating something made by a company.

Pixelfish, sticking his head on the Judges body like that was a joke.
Just look at how absurd it looks. I thought it was funny. :P

And Helm, I'm trying to pixel something that would ordinarily have been drawn, and color reduced. (Edit: I'm guessing, but that's the only way I can explain the lonely flesh tone in the middle of the nose, and the red used in the tie which is hardly noticeable.)
I don't know, I guess this is kinda stupid. I should just go back to trying to make those backgrounds from this game I'm trying to eventually do, maybe.

Oh well, at least I learned something about likeness, I guess.

It's much better now, much more alike! You could further improve by making his eyes squint more, since Bush is kind of permanently squinting, maybe add a small shading area under his eyes to show such squintyness. The key to caricature is capturing a few basic key elements of the face, the ones that jump out at you when you look at the face, once you have those you can exagerate (as long as you're keeping some order and proportion). I dunno, it's an art in itself, and it only comes with practice and knowledge of the basics :)

Now just create a wholly new judge body for him :mean:
