Title: Game objects
Post by: Adrian on April 17, 2007, 08:27:06 am
I made these objects for a game, decided to post on here for some critique. Any advice/edits/comments welcome. Thanks  :)

They're alright for icons I suppose, but some of them could benefit from being widened a bit.

The shapes of the weapons and other items aren't bad themselves, but they are subject to jaggy-ness and some are difficult to read.
To fix the "jaggies", you may want to employ some anti-aliasing (http://www.spriteart.com/tutorials/01_AA.html).
To make the icons easier to read, especially in places like the folds and leaves of the rose and the.....pile of rocks?, I'd suggest so more contrast in the colors, which you could either achieve with darker and brighter hues, or with some hue-shifting (http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=2836.0).
These have hope though.  With enough work put into them, these will be ace.

Zee, "They're alright for icons I suppose, but some of them could benefit from being widened a bit."

When I said game objects, I didn't mean mock up game objects. The game is already programmed and the 32x32 size can't be changed easily and won't be. I'll try more contrast and some AA.. get back to that soon.

Took me a LONG time.. now I need to go to sleeps.

The redone Katana was based on an edit done by Alex H-White. This was his edit:

Tell me what you think.. how do you think they could look better. Thanks, out.

I love how stuff like that clearly shows the kind of bad programmers one has to work with. In any engine I wrote, changing icon size takes one line of change...

I think your icons still lack some contrast and maybe some black outlines could help. These are just my 2 cents ^^

Edit : I've just noticed the two stray pixels in the corner, sorry about that
