EDIT: I changed the subject. Look below for the rules. If you want to see a game made, let me know and we'll do it.
Sorry for the long hiatus. School just started and I got sick.
Anyways, I have good news! Tomarrow begins the retro remakes 2005 competition. I thought someone here might want help out doing art or music (it's fun getting your art into an actual game.) I'll help with art and what-not too, but I should really focus on doing the programming.
Anyways, I haven't picked a game to remake yet (I'm thinking about Kid Icarus though). So if you want to help out, maybe we can remake a game you really want to do, like Animal Crossing or something. ;D
Nyaaan!

Drop me a PM when you choose a game, i might be able to help (depending on the size of the project, i'm a busy busy student >_<)
-
Would you please link to more information about the competition? I imagine that might be useful to people considering entry.
-
I was going to wait to post info when the compo page actually comes up. Until then, you can read about it in the retro remakes forum.

Oh, and I am still open to suggestions for the game to remake. ;D
-
assuming apogee games fall under the restirctions of "retro"
"romancing the rose" has always had a special place in my heart
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paganitzu
Then again, sans beating each level and getting the layout for them, it's a relatively simple game.

I have GREAT news!!!
This time, it doesn't have to be a remake! It can be any game! Furthermore, I have no ideas that I have to do, so...
Let me know what games you want to make!
I will program any game you want, original, remake, or a sequel to a game that had no sequel.
If you always wanted to make a game, 2D or 3D (or both), now is your chance to see it made.
The official rules are up: http://www.retroremakes.com/comp2005/index.php
Alright, let's have fun. =)
EDIT: We'll be entering the international competition, not the UK-only compo.
EDIT 2: Post below if you're still interested and what ideas you have. If we have time, I may be able to do 2 or 3 games. I'll randomly pick whoever sounds the most excited. :P
-
Here's a few of ideas of my own in case someone likes them:
Console-style RPG about existentialism.
A platform (SOTN style) RPG.
A strategy game (like FF Tactics).
Star Fox Remake
Kid Icarus Remake
Beatmania IIDX or Dance Dance Revolution Remake.
A cute platformer.
Super Mario Land remake.
Fighting Game
A game where you jump really high, breaking stuff along the way, into a psychedelic journey into the unknown.
-
I like that last one.
I also like the old VGA Apogee game "Monster Bash"
I'd love to remake that, but since you're programming it, you can choose whatever you want.
I'm at your will!
WHOO.

Evan IMed me and since we were supposed to work together on the last project (some family issues came up), we decided to work together on the first project. Hopefully, we'll have time to work on several titles, since we have over a month. ;D
-
I really can't remember much about it, but, Frostbite for the old Atari 2600 was one of my favourite games back in the days
-
i like the strategy game!
-
@ Zolth: I remember Paganitzu! All I really remember is pushing boulders and dying a lot though...Good times, good times.
I just checked to see if it was up for download anywhere, and 3D Realms is STILL selling it. For $10! ::)
-
I've always wanted to remake Jumpman or Jumpman Returns. Great games. Dumb names.
-
A remake of Tetris Attack!!!! (http://dorando.emuverse.com/html/tetris-attack.html) ... If someone was willing to code it or something I'd totally be up for making the graphics. I love this game to death~! <3
-
Chilly, you're on! If we finish early, we'll do a tetris attack remake.
EDIT: Actually, I think we can probably do tetris attack and the other game at the same time. Are you up for it?
-
I've some music you can use if you'd like... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=350189
Just lemme know before you decide to use it is all I ask and give a mention :)

Totally! Just let me know the details. Contacting me through PM or any kind of messengers would work. :D

On second thought, after reading the rules, I don't qualify to participate because:
4. Due to the nature of the prizes - this years competition is only open to residents of the UK.
I live in NYC, New York... .. .
And especially because:
13. Entrants must not be professional game designers etc... working within the games industry at present. We wish to encourage "amateur" coders, designers and artists with their craft.
I work at Gameloft as a 2D artist, so I guess this means I can't compete. Sorry! : (
But if there's anyone out there who is willing to do a Tetris Attack remake just for fun, let me know. I've always wanted to do one. <3
-
I live in California. There's an international competition going on along side the UK compo.
Secondly, I don't think the amateurs only rule applies to the non UK compo since the reason they only want amateurs is because the big prize for the UK compo is a chance to break into the games industry.
The big prize for the international compo is... a big pat on the back. ;D
So don't worry, there's no reason we can't do Tetris Attack. ;D
EDIT: I just confirmed your elegability with the people running the international compo. You are good to go. I would really like to work with you on this Tetris Attack remake.

I would really like 007 Goldeneye bumped onto the computer with online multiplayer. Please?

Yeah, and can you make a few MMORPG's while you're at it?
-
Sure, turn based or live action?
-
Duuuude, putting Goldeneye on the PC with multiplayer would take like 3 weeks of work!!!
An MMORPG would only take a week and a half.
-
River City Ransom - the only Beat 'em up I ever liked.
Add stats that increase according to how often you perform certain actions,
Vehicles,
More story branches,
The ability to create your own gang and ally with others,
Hidden areas,
More, non-combat skills (Wall jump, super run, heavy lift, etc.),
The ability to enter any building,
The ability to find "special weapons" that can be drawn at any time,
Beating innocents to make the cops come after you and, eventually, the SWAT and Marines,
As few graphical changes as possible - The graphics gave a distinct taste to that game...
Give me this game and you would make me happy for many years to come.
-
i think that's the best idea that has been said in this topic
-
Grand Ransom Auto anyone? C_C
I kind of liked the innocence in that kids could just go beating eachother up with no adults interfeering....sort of like yuyu hakusho and ranma 1/2
-
Grand Ransom Auto anyone? C_C
:D My thoughts exactly
-
Came 4th in this last year, would love to enter again but not got the time, maybe 2006 :P
-
I'm still playing Push Push Penguin a year later. That was a wicked remake dude.
-
I'm going to make something else. I'm running out of time, and I just want to make something quick. =P
I need to finish prototyping a game for work before I will start working on this project again. So I want to scale whatever I was doing down. Maybe I'll make pong or something. =P
-
aren't you the guy claiming to be able to make a fully fleshed out mmorpg in a week, why would you choose a game like pong to remake?
-
Wrong person. I'm a girl. And I never said that. In fact, I kept saying to many people on the board that making games are harder than they probably think.
So you would be right if you take what you said and apply the exact opposite.
And I said I'd make a game LIKE pong or something. Something simple. Maybe breakout. Who knows. I'll come up with an idea later.
EDIT: Changed thread's title. Please don't change my thread's title for me.

?
Grand Ransom Auto anyone?
Sounds great.

So I did say that. Heh. Never mind.
I suppose some people are oblivious to sarcasm. I never made any serious claims to making a fully fleshed out MMORPG in a week. In fact, I was making a point that working on an MMORPG, like doing another Goldeneye, would be foolish to try to do in a short period of time.
EDIT: I think I'll probably just simplify the idea we were originally working on. That way we don't waste any code. I might still have time to work on something really simple though.
-
Sarcasm doesn't convey well through computers.
-
Not all sarcasm is difficult to detect. :P
You knew we were joking above. ;D
-
at least you're having a sense of humor about it, i like the new topic title.
