I think that pirate game looks awesome, most potential IMO.

I really love your mockups :o In the first one, the slimes I think don't fit with the rest

Btw, the last one reminds me of a minigame in DOA Beach Vollyball. ._.

Only crit is the mixed shadows on the pool girls, one solid shadow would look better!  Female kid icarus I would play right this minute, same goes for pirate game, that's great stuff!

 Love the mockup.

Those graphics are very you. Bright and colorful... hmm
I'm not too fond if the way you shaded the cacti though. There may be a light source coming in from the top, but still, I think it could use some highlights in the flat area, or maybe that will make it too intrusive.
The enemies also kinda blend into the background. Or maybe I'm going blind, somebody back me up on this.

Was the pirate game in gamemaker, or something else?

No, you're right.
He's right.
They do.

Ditto.

The platformer looks pretty cool as well, but I'd rather see what you can do with the Pirates.

Either way, it's all really awesome stuff. Who could expect any less from the Fej-man?

Small edit. I dunno, I just liked the cacti, so I coloured one to see if that would indeed be better...

Loving the pirate game btw! I could think of a thousand game mechanics to go with that...

Ew, seriously Gil, that is so out of sync with the rest of the picture. Total styleclash. Tsktsk.

Kenneth you have such a simple style but at the same time it looks so crisp and nice

I'm jealous  :P

Damn good looking stuff.
Especially that pirate mock-up... I'd buy it.

It's surprising how well you blended together the blue and green water, even though there's no transition tiles at all. Just shows how well you picked the colors.

great work kenneth =) the 1. and the 2. are great!

Very cool indeed.

I personally like the sidescroller the best, though I do agree with Flame about the slimes.  They just look very out of place..  The yellow background could use a more interesting silhouette as well, some variety in height would look a bit more appealing.. perhaps even throw in one more inbetween layer/colour of the background hills to add a little more depth.

The pirates one is very impressive as well.. the skull cave/island really reminds me of those old Mighty Max toys.

I'm envious of how clean everything is and how well it reads.

It is always nice to see mockups from you.
I enjoy your color choices, they are neat.

The first one IMO could use some more contrast between the layers so some elements dont look that flat and stand out a bit more.
The pirate one is great, I really dig that skull cave and that life bar, so cool.
The last one looks stylish. Though the pink bikini doesn't read that well.

Hope you post stuff like this more often.

Yeah, that was my conclusion too. He should do something to them though, because the top looks rather meh right now.

yeah if you look at it in detail, maybe, but as a part of the whole picture, they look pretty perfect IMO..  :)

@Kenneth
me likes!
my only crits is about the yellow BG in the first.. looks a bit too empty right now.. but it may be WIP.. ?

Love the pirates, love the sidescroller, the girls just arent my taste

how about something like this for the cacti?  too much light?

enemeies need the same line treatment as the character

thanks for the comments and edits :)

yeah i need to do something about the cacti, a slight color change might be all thats needed, same goes for the bg.
dont really want to add an outline to the slimes, they are meant to be made of water, so adding a outline will make them look too solid.

Crazy Asian Gamer:
nah the only game im actually going to make.... or try to at least... until i get bored of it, is the platformer :)

to me the slimes look completely out of style, they use much more shades than anything else.
everythings looking crisp, clean, and stylish as always kenneth.

1. Stray pixel on the upper portion of the second Cactus from the left. The sandy coloured backdrop looks way too simple and could do with some simple detailing. Its also a weird colour given the overall lighting, and textures of the scene. Much as I love your style, this one doesn't do anything for me...

2. Pure awesomeness! I take it that sailing is not meant to be the main portion of the game; any chance of finding out what was?

3. Interesting to see the humble beginnings of one of your mocks. I'm curious to know if the palette and foreground were still due for some tweaking.

I think that they are all great. Your style is so clean and fresh looking and would look great on a NDS or GBA. Good luck with the game. How are you finding GameMaker?

Jason.

Excellent work =)
My fav is the pirate one, except the veil color. How come it is PURPLE ?

Gamemaker ? Why are you using gamemaker when you could get an army of volunteer coding slaves ?

Because doing it yourself will always be much more fun.

Super-awesome-great job, Kenneth. I'm REALLY looking forward to actually checking out an actually finished product from you. One day...

Hey Kenneth,

It's awesome to see you on these boards, I have been a fan of the games you have worked on from way back when you were with Macrospace (or when macrospace wasnt part of someone else). Recently I really enjoyed Stranded - my company (www.capybaragames.com) came very, very close to making a similar game, but after playing it I am glad it fell through. Also, kudos on the amazing reception PGR has recieved.

Great to see other people commited to making amazing pixel art a part of mobile gaming. kudos dude.

Faceless:
1. yeah the bg isn't done yet, its just a placeholder until i have something better.

2. sailing(exploring) and battling enemies, in the form of other ships and monsters, were meant to the main portions of the game.

3. yeah the foreground and its palette is pretty final, bg is just a quick sketch.

QuickSilva:
gamemaker is pretty cool, i haven't played with it too much yet though, so i might change my mind later on ;)

fil_razorback:
PURPLE is awesome  :y:

because the projects i've worked on until now, never works out in the end. people always get tired and give up.
also, this way, i get to decide everything myself

Rox:
hehe, you can always go to http://www.glu.com ;)

vellan:
hey thanks :)

btw, been meaning to try out pillowfight for quite a while, it looks great :D

hehe thanks. it'll be out in May IIRC...finishing porting now. we have a couple other doozies coming out soon too :)

Keep dumping stuff man, all the artists here really enjoy your style...to the point that we actually sometimes say "MAKE IT MORE FEJER" during crit sessions. hahaha.
