Decided to start working on a possible avatar. At first it was just going to be a generic mushroom but I decided to give it a little twist and make him look a bit evil. I'm trying to use a grungry dither style but I'm very bad at dithering and this is where I need some help. Edits and crits are more than welcome. Oh and before anyone says anything, the outline will be recolored eventually.

Looks a little bit.. Phallic... Unless you were going for that. (for some reason?)

Haha well I wasn't exactly aiming for it to be phallic, but most mushrooms seem phallic as is.

The first thing that came to mind when I opened this thread was "Penis?" :huh:. So yeah, it might be a little too phallic... :lol:

I wouldn't use that as an avatar because it looks too much like a... penis.
Make the cap wider, that should fix it.

That makes me want to use it more ^-^. I'll have to go back and widen the cap though if it bothers you guys.

If you had given it shoulders (or oversized breasts) I would have thought the similarity was entirely on purpose, but I think that even if you don't care if it looks like the end of a penis it doesn't resemble a mushroom which would imply a change of sorts is needed.
The face down section of it looks rather flat, and I think it could stand with a bit more curve.
You also have an extra bit of light coming from the left that isn't hitting the shroomhead but is hitting the "body" section.

Alrighty thanks guys. I'm more of a visual learner than anything so the pictures help. I'll post what I've got done soon.
Edit - Not sure if double posting is frowned upon here so I'll just edit my post for the time being. Here is what I have come up with so far. I went with a different shape than you guys posted and decided to use somewhat of a bolete shape. The shading is just a filler incase anyone else sees an error. Again thanks for the help so far and any future help.

Doesn't look very "phallic" anymore but doesn't look like a mushroom either. I think you won't come around changing the shape to be wider, because well that's how most mushrooms look like (maybe an image search helps: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=mushroom&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2 tons of references ;) )

Well i dont see the big deal, actually i think it would be funny to have a phallic looking avatar as long as it is subtle and not direct. (http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/8286/editgb3.png)

Ah that looks a lot better zeid. Thanks a lot. Here is the latest update incorpating the shape change based on zeid's edit. Thanks. Oh and the shading is still just a placeholder incase anyone point's out errors.

Oh and thanks for the references phillipptr. I actually was using a reference based off a bolete cap.
