Title: My first attempt at pixel art - redoing a wallpaper in pixel.
Post by: staticfields on January 08, 2007, 10:10:23 pm
I made this is GraphicsGale, and I used five colors to make this.

Here's the original source.

I'm going to try to pixelate some photographs I like while adding my own style to them. When I get more accustomed to this I'll start creating work from scratch.

So let me know what you think. I'm open to suggestions.

Edit: Ok, it's up on imageshack. I've used waffleimages for awhile on other message boards without a problem until now.

Edit #2: Rehosted this after checking to make sure it was in perfect .png quality.

I'm using waffleimages to host these, and I can see them just fine. Is there a certain imagehost on this site that we're recomended to use?

I can see it perfectly, the sky is missing dithering.

That's because he rehosted them on imageshack and edited his post  ;)

I'm unsure on how I should go about on dithering the sky. I've seen it used on a character's clothes and skin in a more checkerboard and rigid pattern. I'd like the have the different colors in the sky merged more, but I still want to remain using the five colors, not a variation between them. I'm going to check some tutorials on dithering.

read up on AA, palettes, lightsourcing whilst your there.  Anatomy of trees would help too.

plus this forum has a zoom feature and i, as with most of the other users, would prefer to see this at 100%.

I think you should take another look at the image you are trying to reproduce as a pixel.  You have the general theme with the 'tree' on the side but you are lacking any of the style, as well as some of the placement.  I understand you are trying to add your own style to it as well but I think you should make it much smoother, dither transitioning and what not.
