Hey all,
Getting back into pixel art after a small break, I'm currently trying to do an animation for a character who changes her appearance based on the mask she is wearing. I'm not done with it yet, but I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong, and what I could fix/add/improve. In the end I'd like to achieve a really smooth animation and transition, right now it's too snappy.

(also I'm not sure of how to make the sword disappear...)
Edit : Changed the hairdo transition and added some fabric flaps to the transition. I also did a version with a puff of whimsical smoke, but I feel there's something off about it...

simply have it move behind them but vanish instead of showing behind the body. Hammerspace is a pretty handy visual tool.

^ I also further animated the transition, adding an animation for when the long sleeves sort of "pop" in. Also made the moon on her mask glow a little, tell me what you guys think.
I still find the end of the whole animation quite brutal. Any advice on this ?

there's not really any changes in her pose to make for the change, I'd add a bit of bobbing on her legs to lead into the movement more during the mask equip. If she's going to have multiple mask forms a bit of a squat-bob as she puts it on will add some life and lead into whatever change she makes nicely.

I'm having a bit of a struggle with what you've suggested, it seems really simple but I've redrawn the squatbob frame over 10 times and it still feels weird :yell:

I can't actually tell what you've changed, so no, not at all. You gotta move the legs! can't move-tool your way out of this one, haha.

Like theeeeess ? é_è maybe I'm just understanding it wrong ?

yeah, bit better. Her legs kinda still just slide into place, but with the bob it's a lot less noticeable.
