Title: anyone got any ideas on how to improve this bridge?
Post by: GDawgTheFab on May 10, 2018, 02:37:32 pm
Was going for something with an arch in the middle but at this perspective I am finding it difficult to portray that.

Also have no idea what sort of texture I should go with, anyone have any suggestions?

I think having more highlights color , especially in the middle area of the bridge will emphasize that the middle part of the bridge is higher than the rest.  :)
For the texture, because it's made of stone, I think a noisy, scattered pixel dot gonna do just fine.
Sorry I can't edit your image to show you what I mean, maybe later!  :'(

Maybe something like this in the middle

I made the ramp thicker in the middle, since this is what's closer to the eye. added colour on the top of the bridge to give the illusion of a curvature. Also it's unclear where your lightsource is coming from.
Hope that helps :)

texture and decorations. think about the context, is this a fancy area? an old bridge? a new one? does it see lots of use?

if old: worn middle bits where people have walked a lot, perhaps moss and vines.

if fancy, statues and ornate brick work. etc etc etc!

I'd like to know how you'd pull that off, I can't really picture a scattered single-pixel-based texture that doesn't just look like unintentional noise. ???

Anyway here's my humble take on it, I made the shadows just a tiny bit purple (I find it more interesting to the eye than just plain grey, but it's a matter of taste), thickened the bridge in the middle for more volume, and added some sort of flagstone texture, if that can give you some ideas :)
