Title: [WIP] Texturing Objects * UPDATED *
Post by: SCiDT on November 24, 2006, 05:56:36 pm
I have been trying to texture a piece of wood, it really looks messy!
Anybody got any advice?

Ok so we worked on a plank, I tried a tutorial I found here I didn't understand it that well.

I tried to work on a shiny metal pipe. I didn't do too bad i believe, How can I improve it?
(I think it looks to much like a beam of light, some DBZ stuff or something)

I gave it a shot, maybe not the best person for the job  :P

Anyway I made your version straighter, I added more contrast and shaded the wood instead of using lines as texture.

hmm yours looks nice, it really seems as wood, but I think that SCiDT meant wood from trees not for houses. Or atleast thats what i though :P

Thanks to Buloght I realized how stupid I was!

I tried to use the wrong texture on the wrong wood type! Brilliant remake Buloght!

Also I think Straightening my lines would help. I am going to try some of the advice also try
making a tree trunk, that would work better like i did it the first time!

You can see I am new at this  :-[

buloght did a great job in showing that less is sometimes more! If you do too much details the "whole" might disapear. If it isnīt supposed to be a plank but instead a piece of wood, maybe it would work if you made the wood under the bark in a lighter colour.

I do think it looks like wood already though ;]

Cheers,

Lelle

@ Lelle : True, Buloght obviously has allot of experience.

@ Buloght : You were right and I did something very stupid trying to use a bark type texture on a plank!

I think I am going to learn allot here!
