Title: Trying out a tileset (oh and Hi)
Post by: Rantark on November 13, 2006, 04:03:11 am
Heya I am new here, kinda new to pixel art and learning was wondering if I could get some Crit on these tiles I am working on,  I could not find a decent Color Scheme.  so I looked at some of the ones I saw on here.

tell me what I can do to make them look better (sorry I don't have a mock up of how they would look)

They seem alright. Really depends on what you're doing and what type of style you're after. When you get some more done, post them, and post a mock. My only immediate concern is that the bushes are very squared looking, but that might be the point.

Well, glancing at it the first thing one notices is the horizontal lines the highlights in the grass create. Try breaking up those ridges as they make the tiles look... well, tiled. You want it to have the illusion of being a whole piece. Also, consider making the grass edge tiles include the dirt with some light shadowing to help ground them there. This will keep it from looking like the grass is hovering above the dirk like clouds. Lastly, try having a few blades of grass pointing downwards. This will make the scene look more like its being seen from an angle up above rather than from the side. No time for a edit now, and I think you'd rather have one from a veteran anyways.

It's hard to tell so ZOOMED in, but they look a little too uniform and repetitive. I'd try creating some variation.

well what I am making them for is a game.  I am using the mega-pixel style cause I like it.

Maybe so, but it doesn't mean that all your tiles have to be identical. Create some variations. It's less of an eye attack.

Other than the fact that you need to break the grid, it looks pretty good. By the way, playerworlds is a waste of time, if you really want to make a game, find a better way.
