I found Pixelation through the people of Pixeljoint talking about scuba steve's king of spriters project. Took me a while to sign up though, you guys all seemed pretty hardcore. Lol.  :-*

I found Tsugumo's tutorials through a search, but it wasn't until a little later when my friend referred me to the forum.

I was a member of the old swoo.net forum triumverate (pixelation, gdr, distortion) but just a lurker/admirer on pixelation until around 2003, when I first posted some really, really crappy pixels

I remember when most of the "oldbies" around here joined :p Pep, st0, Helm, etc. .  Even during times I'm not all that active it's just engrained in my psyche to come here.

A few years ago I unsuspectingly cut open a tomato with the most gloriously sharp knife... and once it had opened, I saw all the little seeds arrange together, spelling out the URL for me. :B

But in all seriousness, I can't remember, it was a few years ago and I have a bad memory. ???

I think I found it through the credits of some DarkBasic game I downloaded.  That was back in... February of 2004 I think.  I was (and still am) on the forum all the time, but I've posted and pixeled about as much as Rox :-P

I was linked to pixelation by some Canadian guy who used to make smileys in some other forums I used to visit. (And that was around Dec 2003)

I got they Idea that I could make a River City Ransom type remake game.  So I went off looking for sprites that I could use as bases.  To google it was.

At the time of old pixelation such FADS that were going around such as as the Colin Sick Fan Club(lots of RCR hits with this one) Brass Knuckles and Belt Buckles and the I *-ate SALS signatures drew me in.

I found that I went to the same school at the same time as Mister Sick and I may have indeed met him, as soon as I was in brief correspondence with him, he lost his internets somewhere in Asia.

This story is only interesting to me... :D

/I'd rather not tell the alternative truth that I was in search of some very very low res pr0nography...

I believe I found out through some artist at devianatART. I vaguely remember checking it out and being scared of a forum based community (as I never used forums before... it's a laugh now that I think about it). I also remember being so intimidated by the amazing pixels I found there and it inspired me to never return until I thought I was ready. PixelJoint ended up becoming my home and rediscovered the wonders of it through there.

PixelJoint is awesome. I believe PJ is a stepping stone between Pixelation and DA: People seem to have a notion of 'intimidation' about Pixelation, but have grief about the poor representation of Pixel Arts at DA, so PixelJoint is meeting an important demand by creating a very welcoming environment for casual pixelers or those who want a gallery system like DA, but catered towards pixeling.

but seriously pep  :P, why all the polls recently?
I could say that it was for the staff to get to know what the members are like, but that wouldn't be the truth of it at all since polls don't do justice compared to getting to know people on an individual basis. I did it for the general interest, discovering forum trends that show how Pixelation relates to the rest of the internet. I also did it, subsequently, for all of you guys, because I think this information is going to prove somewhat useful in the near future.

Link from ?? -> Tsu's Tutorial -> (revisited 2 years later...) Pixelation Forums

For Tsu's Tutorial, I think it was in the links section of some Mega Man page I frequented... don't remember exactly, though. It was a LONG time ago...And I never bothered to visit the forums until right about the first time they shut down / moved servers / whatever and took down the original tutorial page.

Hmm. I signed up a long long time ago. I used to lurk, and I wasn't too good at pixel art at all, so I never got too into the forums. I forgot how I found it, I think it was just searching around back then, or maybe it was how others found it, Tsu's tutorial, because I remember looking at his tutorials back then too. But I'm pretty sure I started getting into pixel art and wanted to find a site that's sole purpose was for it, and did a search.

Back at the Megaman sprite creation forum I was in (that's pretty special right there, it wasnt focused on editing...I think someone there might've just made up the term "full custom" :p) some guy came in with an idea for a game, I knew him as Anfini, the name of his main char. he browsed around and sent me the link to Tsu's tut...honestly that part I didnt care about much, but it led me here.

I remember I had several sprites from scratch when I first came but the first thing I posted was a megaman exe with a "custom"(hehe) jump animation he didnt have, I did that just to screw with people's head XD I could've simply posted something completly mine but nooooooo.

let me just say, this is a beautiful place, I really grew as a person in here, for good or bad...I'm not sure I've actually said that whitout a critique right before/after, so I thought I'd let it out  :'( never let it die! :y:

First found this place, or rather it's Pixelopolis form, when I noticed an entry for the Christmas stockings challenge (unknown to me at the time.) at Deviantart. A link brought me here. Noticed people like Kenneth hanging around (had known about his site for a while, have much respect for the guy.) and most importantly, that this was an active pixel forum  yet there were was no sprite edits. The stuff of legends.

Then I lost the link...

Searching for "socks" on deviantart didn't get much of a result. I found it again by accident when I found the link to scuba-Steve's KOS 2006 contest. Noticed a link to the original forum topic, clicked it and lo' and behold. This place.

Registration was imminent.

I was messing around with non-pixel Paint art on another forum and someone spontaneously linked me to Pixelation... I was like, no way, I have no place among them! LOOK AT THAT!

But I joined eventually and began a painfully slow journey toward not being ashamed of my own mediocrity.

I guess I could call him a friend...

big blue bubble is located in Canada... London Ontario, Canada to be exact.  So I can see where you got confused.  They contacted me not too long ago.  I didn't realize that Tsugumo worked for them though.

I think I found a link to Tsu's tutorial in gamedev.com's 2d programming section. I looked at the tut, visited the forum and registered about a year or so later. I cant remember hte exact date, but it was arond the time taht Ndeal posted his first pieces, I remember a really cool graveyard scene done in Isometric, and I also remember a Christmas Secret Santa that had a sidescroller game with, I believe, a character swinging a sword.

I vote for your own remix of snakeman, snake.

Ouch... I found this place just a couple of months ago and I already can't remember how I landed here
Anyway, I was searching the web for pixelling-oriented websites as I needed collaborators for my game (sadly, it turned out that there are very few places for pixellers... but at least Pixelation is a nice one :)), so most likely I was taken to Pixelation by Google or some link in other art-related sites...

In the month of December, 2002 those that were known as Ndeal and Moerder were on PixelLAB and both had mentioned Pixelation. So I saw what it was all about, was intimidated and ran away. I returned and joined and was a complete asshole in February 2003. Maybe it was January. After the initial backlash I started to find my place in the community.

I wasn't even a newbie, newb or even worthy of the title noob. I was as retarded as they come, a flat out n00b. I even remember my first post in the serious critique forum, as it was called back then, general and serious critique. Must've been after the first infamous shut down of Pixelation. A guy had posted what I apparently thought was a rather sorry attempt at some sort of samurai/knight combination and I made a list of a lot that I figured was wrong with it. A lot of it didn't even have to do with pixel level details, but stylistic things that were way out of line for me to say needed to be corrected. I must've been an angry person back then. It didn't help that the thread was four months old and on something like page three of the forum.

GO! Blue Bomber! GO!

I dropped the "Man" part a long time ago. People just called me Snake anyway, but I don't really want to be associated with a game character. Of course, it just so happens that a certain tactical espionage game became popular, so I guess I don't have any choice now. I've made plenty of MM redesigns, but to me it wouldn't mean anything.

A small animated version of yourself. Or a portrait. Maybe make yourself look like a video game character you're fond of. ANYTHING. Start a thread with a sketch :) I'll help you make some quick progress and create something you ought to be proud of!

I've been thinking about this a lot actually. I'm too indecisive though. A pure portrait isn't working and I keep changing my mind about the other ideas. In any case, until my computer is back from repear (and/or replaced) I won't be able to make anything.

Found it on an artist's page.

I found a ton of stuff by following Derek Yu's links www.derekyu.com, I was a big fan of his games back in the day. I followed more link pages from those links, so on and so forth, and eventually found the Pixelation forums. I don't remember exactly which artist's page had a link, but I'm pretty sure that was it.

I was deliberantly looking for a new message board to become apart of. The last message board I was at was a Soul Calibur III place, and I was pretty hyped about the new game, so I wanted to talk about it. But after being there for a while, I found out that the majority of the members were age 15 and younger and all they really talked about was stuff like Final Fantasy and awful anime such as Digimon and Naruto. I was like "I gotta get the hell outta here". O_O

So, with a fresh pixel artwork of mine on the mind at the time, I decided to search for a pixel board. Found out about this place in Wikipedia, and here I am.

I'm sure everyone agrees when I say we are happy to have you, now you can give us all the goss on Digimon and Naruto... jkin. But I do think it's ironic you have Astroboy in your fadatar (luv your work btw) after complaining about the anime  then again Astroboy is more oldschool I love reflecting on the old school cartoons every now and then.

I found out about pixelation through pixel, which I found out about through GMC forum, :( don't get me started about the kids on there so many amateur games. Pokemon fan games and such, It's sad coz it hides the well made ones.

Yeah, I've been told by a friend that "Death Note" is well done and quite good. I haven't gotten around to reading/watching it yet.

I do realize that there's a few good anime still coming out, but the ratio of good to bad is pretty much 1 to 10 where as back in the 80's and 90's it was 10 to 1.

And thanks for the compliment. I'm just doing my job on helping out on filling the female void. lol
