Dude, you forgot the sadness! How could you forget the misery in his eyes, the dead expression of middle-age?
haha nah but really good work, though you may want to put some detail on his shirt.

Ohhh you're editing the op. Don't do that, reply with new versions or it doesn't properly bump the thread for us to see!

someone begged me to do a lion king one, though i may remove it from the compilation if i make any more because you can tell it's the only one where i've used a cartoon image as the reference

Nothing wrong with that! Just be sure you study realistic references too, haha. the shading on louie looks a bit off, I think it's the forehead doing it.
And all of the faces need tweaks done to the eyes, louie and the live-action cat in the had all make sense with squints but I can't see simba rocking that quite as hard.

thanks mysterymeat, i went ahead and tried another realistic one, be cool if anyone were to guess who it is

the eyes are squinty in all of them because im trying to use only full clusters

E- i think my latest one makes my louie look like shit

I think there's such a thing as over-clustering, it gives your work a very notable "blocky" look I took to be an intentional stylistic choie. It looks nice, but don't hard-lock yourself into it! I've always taken clustering as less of a hard rule and more a heavy recommendation, personally. There's some details you can't really compress like that! Notable on this would be the curvature of Louie's round, sad, bald head. The square highlight would serve to better indicate the curve of his face.

Here, I've tweaked a couple of the faces so they're less squinty while still taking clusters into consideration. I didn't mess with the shading stuff I mentioned earlier, but hopefully it gives you ideas!

Thanks for the advice about Louie, I went ahead and tried him again and hopefully it applies some of what you've said. I also cleaned up the cat.

Still not quite satisfied with any method of making their eyes yet.

Yeah, eyes take a bit of doing. Sometimes there's no real other recourse but to up the resolution or even redraw the faces sometimes.  That said, louie looks much better with the rounder shapes and more minimized shading!

You could use AA+intentional banding to give the impression of rounder eyes. Adding a shadow directly underneath the eye gives the impression of thick pixels = rounder eyes. If you zoom in it looks more like eye-bags, but at 1-2x it just reads as part of the eye cluster and makes it look a little thicker.

I only edited the humans here. I used the hair colour on Louis CK's portrait because there wasn't a skin tone of appropriate value, but with a 1px thick addition it doesn't matter at 1x anyway. Zoomed in it looks like luscious eyelashes, hah.
I also removed the shadow on the side of Louis's nose because it was reading as part of the eye cluster and taking away from the sad look.
