Title: Space ship for shoot'em up, need some C&C
Post by: Gunne on October 18, 2006, 01:46:55 pm
Hi there folks, yes I'm kinda new here, registered three days ago  ???, and this is my first post

anyway, I did this little space ship for a personal game I'm making (practicing the skills), but I need some C&C on it, on how to improve this little fighter, especially the top when he goes to the left/right, still new to pixel arts...

thanks  :)

I don't see anything wrong with anything, and I think the animation is good. I'm just wondering though, if it's a smart move to just flip the whole sprite, it looks like it has light coming from either side of it.

If it's for a game, I think it will suffice. Welcome to Pixelation. :)
BTW, post proggress please.;)

Glad that you liked it rabidbaboy ;D, the thing I don't like about the animation is how the front of the ship deforms, and how the back of the wings get bigger one frame, But I just saw this problem, so I could fix it, but I really dunno what to do with the front of it :(

Oh, I didn't really thought about the light, so that's why I just flipped it

No, no, you misunderstood what I meant by "post progress". I meant if and when you make a few more in-game sprites, post them here. For example, when you come around to finishing some enemy sprites, I'd like to see them too. ;)

To be honest, I see nothing wrong with the animation and/or lineart. I was just thinking you'd probably want a one-sided lightsource, instead of it seeming like there were two lightsources.

lol that's awsome. It actualy looks better than some space ship sprites I've played with in games....like that. And modern ones too, not just the oldie ones.

For the future, most shooters have the lighting at the front of the ship, so that lighting isn't a problem for flipping the sprite and the such.

Who's Miyamoto? ???

haha, just kidding ;), it turns when the ship goes left or right, I don't really like playing with those static ships with only one sprite when they move

but it's nice to see that I did a good job on it

Here's one enemy, worked on it a few days ago, I think it's finished (except the animation), but I'm not sure it's really fits the style of the spaceship

This is a great space ship sprite!  The only thing I thought of that you could change is maybe, just a little anyhow darken the flames going out of the engine, by just a bit though not much.
