Title: [C+C] Forest Ruins

Hey, I've been working on this lately, any suggestions to improve it?

Shadows look a bit off on the building to the right. Everywhere else the sun looks to be coming straight on the bottom right side, but the top of building casts a shadow on its pillars as though the sun is coming from the upper right.

Looks beautiful though.

The yellowy coloration gives it a More desert-oasis vibe than a forest ruins vibe, but forewarning that may be my colorblindness talking

Thanks for the feedback! I also changed the sky reflections a bit.

Where is your light coming from? because it seems like it is top right, but at the same time the right side of the right building isn't lit at all... Also the grass looks a bit noisy, it has a lot of stray dark pixels.

Other than that, it look really good, also the composition :)

I didn't want to light the right of the building because the building isn't supposed to end there, so the wall would block the light, and the grass is kind of noisy in real life too. I think these are just other ways to do it.

I think the fact that there's a well-lit column on the outside of the building right where it cuts off is what makes the cutaway not read like a cutaway. None of those columns should be so well-lit.

Grass IRL is noisy, but this is where stylization comes in - humans rarely think of (consciously perceive) objects the way they are, and simplified grass will often read more like [grass] than something that reflects attributes of grass that people don't tend to think about, like the fact that it's noisy.
Overall, I think a clear, effective image is more important than realism, especially in pixel art. In addition, having "realistic" grass in the same image as the highly stylised, simplified trees and ruins just looks odd. I think cleaning up the grass would be best. You can still make it look long and textured without making it noisy.

I did a quick color edit. I made the shades less saturated, this makes stuff look realistic. I also changed the base colour of the buildings. It may be that this isn't what you are going for tho.

CFKaligula's edit fixed the problem I mentioned with the color scheme, the more earthy tones sell me far better on the forest part than those sandstony colors did. The darks on the tree trunks look a bit off now though, so it might be worth it to try tweaking that some

supe rlovely, indeed on a whole different level compared with how your villag epiece started out.

THough get this atmospheric warm shining sunlight in
just a color edit, exept I filled the floor to the left with a darker shade, bc it felt quite bad in terms of seperation.

on another note, I feel like you use far too much dither. It doesn't really work for the trees or for the cloud reflection.

the clouds for sure need to tone it down, but on the trees I still think it's a color problem and not an issue with the art.
The problem is too MUCH definition between the dark and midtone, if the darks on those leaves were turned down a bit it would level out to a nice textured look I think.

Love it. Gotta go against the grain here though - the edits may have a stronger sense of light and improved realism, but they don't have the same charm and sheer level of comfyness that the first version's colors have in my opinion.

A good point by kullenberg, actually. You might be able to get the best of both worlds by messing around with saturation and brightness some, though!

Thanks for the feedback! I think it looks better now. I also added some texture to the water.
