Title: Staff fighter pose
Post by: Danielclarc on November 23, 2016, 07:19:06 pm
Hi everyone, I've been away from the forum for a while because of work. Today I found some time, and also something that I need some help with   :P

I'm starting to work on a character that is a female fighter with a staff. The whole environment she is going to be settled in is based on oriental culture. I'm working on the first pose by now, and I'm a little worried about the anatomy. Since I'm aiming her for a game, I'm not too worried about the head being a little bigger than real proportions. I'm more specifically worried about limbs and torso size and pose

I'm tooking this picture as direct reference https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/dd/8e/1b/dd8e1b5349a640faf7c8a47e05267897.jpg (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/dd/8e/1b/dd8e1b5349a640faf7c8a47e05267897.jpg)
I imagine her phisical like this other girl https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/9f/cc/51/9fcc518bd25e64f1f18ecb50480c640c.jpg (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/9f/cc/51/9fcc518bd25e64f1f18ecb50480c640c.jpg)

Obs: I didn't put the references directly on the post because of the size of the images

My nigga.

I don't know if i was able to do as you requested, but i fixed a bit her torso, i think it was too thick for a femenine physique, and i opened up her legs a bit, due to the kung fu position that you're applying that's called ma-pu (I think that's the right way to spell it.) and consists of almost a riding-horse position, so her legs were too close each other.

Also added eyes and hair, just for fun.

Thanks Fieldren the leg position really helped, I didn't narrowed the waist that much because I thought of a more athletic phisyque (sorry if it is mispelled).

I had to enlarge the size of the sprite to better fit the game canvas and started with the clothes and some shading.

The hair is a placeholder. The palette is a placeholder for now too. Right now, her face is giving me trouble, but of course there still may have other issues if someone wants to point out

Here are my tentatives

hahaha the bottom ones were just because I was tired of scraping faces :P

my attempts to narrow the face a little have made disastrous faces

I thought about narrow her face, but i think it's not necessary this time.

I tried 3 different types:

1.- Eyes with eyebrows.
2-.Angry face
3-."Mum, i burnt my eyebrows"-face.

I tried to reposition the eyes, and give her a bigger forehead, just like anime characters.I think that you can fit that kind of art style very well on your design. It's up to you buddy, this is just an idea.

Cheers bro! ;D

Progress on the character!

I've made two attack animations. I'm pretty satisfied with them, I'm just not sure about the trail the legs are leaving are helping to "explain" her leg movements or if they're just a distraction.

Both attacks don't have anticipation frames because since I made the animations for a game, anticipation frames feel like input lag on most cases (I've learned that on one of the amazing tutorials https://twitter.com/saint11 (https://twitter.com/saint11) has been pulling off ;))

I've also left the original pose in the transition, just because it looked good on the animation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Woah, I like that. Maybe the bump on her hair should move too?

EDIT: OMG I totally meant bun, not bump. lol

Silver's got the right idea! Add some motion to her bun, it'll add just a little bit of extra flair.

Thanks! You're right, her bun look way better with movement

I've also added a Third attack and tweaked a few more things

Here's a demo showing more or less how the game is supposed to be https://thoran.itch.io/prototest?secret=3qdiPX1YC0ynHpWBC0CBGXNtEc (https://thoran.itch.io/prototest?secret=3qdiPX1YC0ynHpWBC0CBGXNtEc)

Thank you all again ^_^
