Title: Feedback on a sprite for game please

I am currently beginning work on a side scrolling beat em up game. I started to create a sprite that will be used in game.

He will be one of the main characters in the game. One concern I have is that he may loko feminine and may be mistaken as a girl. Because of that I attempted to give him a beard. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I would loose the red lips and have a more square jaw.  It would help it look more male.
Also, assuming you're going to animate this, it would help a lot to lower the color count and detail.  I would also suggest some selective outlining to stand out on different backgrounds.
