Looks very nice already, and the controls work fine. The character in the bottom left looks very reminiscent of this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Moon#The_Toast_King

How about making the coins' sides reflect some light when they're turning?

Haha this looks very cute, I love it! My suggestion for the pencil spikes would be to make them much narrower, probably half the width they are now, and make the lead more pointy too :) I'd also make the trasure chest much brighter and sparkly, right now it's almost blending into the wall.

I like what you have there, keep it up!

Ps: Why does the coin animation stop briefly when it's in the side view?

UPDATE!!!! ta daaaa

LINKAGE (http://www.xaoss.com/uploads/game.html)

ok i have added a kind of edge tile i will work on that more as my engine doesnt alow me to overlay tiles only objects so the edge has to fill up the whole square or you get a gap.

i have updated sprites!!! juicebox, king of toast and jam

the king of toast has speach! now you know what hes for and some of the storyline.

(a note- it has recently come to my attention that my charicter the king of toast is verry close to the charicter the toast king from some sort of cartoon, the two are connected in no way)

also coins have shine...

oh and start and end screen will be updated at the end with instructions etc

@cave : didnt see your post till now i will have a go at makeing spikes smaller... as for the coin animation, it shouldnt do that... does it still do it in the update?

erm that is all for now... keep your comms and crits comeing :)

I would make it so you can press a button to make the toast king's message go away. I don't like switching from keyboard to mouse in a game. The only other problem is that he jumps four times faster than he can run. Just feels wierd. Other than that, the game is ultra-cute. :)

Variable jump heights would be handy, so if you let go of the key before he was at the peak of the jump, he'd not go any higher. Other than that little niggle it's looking pretty good so far.

Run button = cool.
Different animation when hit = more believable
Always happy = is that guy sane? I mean, if you have that much health...
;)

I'm diggin' the style. Keepitup.

There's a typo in the toast king's message. "My butter got stole" should be "My butter got stolen"

I thought that was for humor, as well as "They be angry," and the sudden change of dialect from "thou/oneself" to "Oh yeah, watch out for..."

I fail to see the humour in it.

it's just a laid back, goofy way of doing it. seems fine to me  :yay:

anyways i like the look of it...nice clean graphics for the most part....i'm not sure how the pencils play in with the game..but looks good and it's pretty fun to play.

I fail to see the humour in it.

It's called personality. Not everyone has proper grammar, so there's bound to be some characters in games that don't. All that matters is if you're consistant with the personality and the character, which he was.

Anyways, I like it. Very clean and simple, and overall appealing. This proves style can be much better than realism when executed right.

i can assure you the spellings are intentional.  Artisan had also not seen that toast king someone posted, i think it spawned in one of our physics lessons  ???
