Title: Grayscale textures

Hi!
I am currently working on a character design of a deer/crow hybrid. I haven't started coloring it yet, and want to know if the feather texture on the head and the fur texture on the body look ok.
Also, I'd like to know if any parts look too weird/wonky so I can fix them.

The fur texture looks great, but I think the feather texture looks a bit like cream cheese.
I think it's less a problem with the texture, and more oversaturation of the texture and a lack of silhouette variation along the back of the neck to really imply feathers.

Definitely looks better, though I'd try to give the front-facing feathers a bit more work to fit with how shaded the back-facing feathers are, looks like you switched from a painterly look to a lined cartoon look between them now.
It's not something that's particularly jarring though, people likely wouldn't pick up on it in the context of a scene.

Ok, so I tried to fix the feathers near the front so they don't look as starkly outlined. Also, I added some color and drew in an eye-

I thought the head looked kind of unfinished, so I drew some antlers made out of bird's feet.

looking good! i think the antlers migjt not be the way to go though. maybe some kind of intricate spectral halo?

Going very nice!

My favourite thing about this is the subject at hand. I'm always intrigued by animal hybrids ever since I saw "Girantis", by Snake. I will call this magnificent beast a Beer (bird + deer)

Your lines look a bit too jagged and square, especially near the Beer's hind areas. I recommend smoothing them out and making them more circle. The colouring at the end of it's beak also seems to distract and looks odd. The texture on the feathers are spot-on, but I would definitely recommend removing the darkest color (in the feathery area) entirely as it gets lost and just takes up space.

Hmmm, while I suspect you were going for the head to be situated similarly to how a deer's would be, I feel like it looks odd in the context of how a bird holds its head. I also attempted to smooth out the transition a bit from the bird to the deer. A rough edit, but it might give you some ideas.

See, now I'm conflicted. On one hand, natural transitions can really help a design, but on the other end the current design has kind of a fairy-tale feel to it as it currently exists. Trying to make too smooth a transition between the two might lose that feel and make it seem more "eldritch mutant"y.
Take with a grain of salt though, this is all my personal take on it and that's pretty flawed stuff sometimes.

I was thinking that the white spots were a bit too distracting, and that if the feathers covered more of the chest the transition from feathers to fur would be smoother. I also did some shading on the legs and replaced the rough points with curves. It looks kind of bland now 

@drain. I love the name  :y: not sure what you mean by remove the darkest color

@Zia The extended neck looks a bit weird to me. I may or may not attempt to animate this later, so I'm not sure how that would move. If mine looks too un-proportional though I'll change it
