Title: Advice for picking a color palate?
Post by: Yokai90 on June 18, 2016, 01:50:22 am
Honestly is there any advice for picking a color for when your starting something? I find it quite difficult finding a palate ^^;

This tutorial by Arne is one of the best starting points I feel, though its not at all specific to pixel art. There's definitely some crutch methods for picking pixel art palettes that don't require you to know much about color (some spread of 3-5 colors from dark to light, generic purple <-> yellow hue shifting) but it's better to just learn about color for versatility.

I'd also suggest looking for books on color from a design perspective since they tend to have a less physical approach to colors and more of a cognitive/psychologic. I'm not sure this is the right one (due to different versions) but if it is, "color design workbook" would be a good example.
