Title: [WIP] character with walk cycle
Post by: NAPREDATOR on June 05, 2016, 10:09:21 pm
Hello, i was browsing the forums a bit to see what this place is all about and figured it would be a great place to get some tips/feedback.

My first question is how long do you suppose it would take me to draw acceptable stuff?  i still don't know alot about how being an artist works, but i believe the more time you put into something the better you'll get, though my friend thinks either you've got "it" or you don't.

This has all been about 15 hours work within 2 weeks i think, these first two where done after watching  HeartBeast (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FfkyghoVws)

I'm using the sega master system palette.

This last one was done with X-Kaliber 2097 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Kaliber_2097) as reference.
I changed the palette of it to see if it was possible to make something look good with these limitations.

Here is what i came up with:

(http://s33.postimg.org/4qjnpgfyn/kaliburdraft2.gif) (http://s33.postimg.org/own5ocbm7/kaliburdraft2.png) (http://s33.postimg.org/idppxoa1b/kaliburdraft3.png) (http://s33.postimg.org/fkwidn9ov/kaliburdraft4.png) (http://s33.postimg.org/gol83cjpr/kaliburdraft5.png) (http://s33.postimg.org/z5fmu5znz/kaliburdraft6.png) (http://s33.postimg.org/bv1gyhn7z/kaliburdraft7.png)

Which leads me to my second question, i'm personally quite happy with the animation but i am really struggling with the colours also i think the head looks a bit weird and maybe the legs are too long? i've tried making the arms look good like it does in the reference, but it just ends up looking terrible. maybe i'm just being too hard on myself, do you guys think this is good progress considering the time it took me to get this far?

for the last walk cycle, be wary of pillow shading.

Here's an article on how to easily make an 8-frame walk cycle.
