Title: Help with my Pine Tree
Post by: NobleDuelist on April 03, 2016, 04:26:22 am
I've been trying to make a pine tree for a project i'd wanna start on. I don't really want it to look realistic but also I don't want it to look cartoony but it always comes out the way you see it. (http://i.imgur.com/3QRiu3S.png) I put the base there to show a size comparison

If nothing else it does look congruent with the character sprite, which is definitely important.

If I had any reccomendations I'd say just look at some pictures of pine trees while you work, the big thing making it too cartoony for me personally is the lack of branches extending towards the camera.

Agree with above ^

Colour palette might be improved too - right now it's very memory based, eg. "pine trees have all dark green leaves", "tree trunks are dark brown" well are these statements really true? You could also consider adding an artistic bend to your art by researching a topic called "hue shifting" which is talked about a lot in this forum.
